just bit of weight removal today. nothing to major. chopped all unwanted brackets etc out of the car. learnt a important lesson, dont grind to close to windows as you get metal in them lucky for me there windows i eventually wanna replace with plastic![]() was going to use polycarbonate for windows, anyone know what thickness?? one ive replaced rear windows ill take out motors and chop the rear inside of the door too. tommorow hoping to chop up my bonnet and fit my bonnet vent. also finally got round to revoving air con pump and the last remains(removed rad yonks ago) ![]() just gota tidy the inside up a bit ready for when clarkey fits my super duper cage. Viscous fan is off awaiting new water pump and lower temp thermostat before hooking rad etc back up again and getting it running ![]()

| weird day today! went to fit my new 80oc thermostat to find that my car didnt have one, some muppet had removed it. fitted new one and connected everything back up including the rad. Ill have to remove rad again to fit water pump but wanted to check id got the injectors to seal ok and my copper pipe bodge to work too. Been trying to bleed the rad, can i do it?hell no. was out there for twenty mins with air still coming from the bleed nipple ontop of rad, am i doing sumat wrong? Starting to lose enthusiasm quickly, still have nasty running fault which i cant find. runs nice when cold but lumpy and misses when warm. my worrys is it may be HG or nikasil. going to take to bmw and get diagnosed. Problem is no trailor so im kinda stuck at mo as cars in bits ready for cage and its outa tax and mot. Anyone know someone with a trailor whos near oxford that can help? im really getting my head in dumps with it not running right..so expect me to break it next week! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() unless anyone knows some bmw experts that can help? | BMW Driver... | Ooooo i'll be after some bits if you break it ![]() Just kidding dude, just keep your head up and keep at it man you'll get there in the end Did you not know wether it was a nikasil or alusil block when you bought the car?BTW that 80c thermostat should fit my engine too shouldnt it? If so have you got a part number and manfacturer of it? Just wondering if it's worth putting a lower thermo in even though i'm not doing the rest of the fan delete mod |

nah i didnt know about nikasil issues before buying so kinda my own fault really. yeah im determined to build it just its a case of me having a problem and no solution. thermostats a bmw part. i think the part numbers 11531265084 i believe, ill check tommorow but just ask them if its 80oc as they do know what temp there rated for.

How many miles has it got Sammy? I guess it has high milage? if so its extremely unlikely to be a Nikasil problem. From what I've heard these normally show before 50ish k miles and if they havn't by then then its very unlikely to become a problem later on. I'm no mechanic but the fact that its ok when cool and has problems when hot will point to specific things to check. The lack of thermostat is not a problem, people often remove them if it has gone and they can't get a replacement for whatever reason. They just help the engine warm up quicker by stopping the coolant flow from cold. I'll ask crazydave what he thinks if you want as he's an engine guru.

please royal, much appreciated. i still hope its a sensor thats stuck on cold start but i suppose its like owning a CA18DET you constantly paranoid that something bads going to happen. id cheer myself up if i had a compression tester and knew how to use it. ben im tempted fella, may come up. not sure about skidding ive seen the damage those barriers do.

bit of a update, had uras bonnet vent left over from when i had the s13 so thought id make the most of it ![]() ![]() i know im probally going to get flammed from you lot but i dont really care, looks better imo and aids cooling so all thumbs up from me. first of all choped the metal support from behind the bonnet ![]() then chopped a hole for the vent to sit in ![]() slotted the vent in and started riveting. went a bit ott with the rivets but should be nice and strong. fits a bit rough and ready as the vents obviously not made for a bmw but kinda looks ok from distance but bit untidy up close. ![]() whilst there i took off the horrible ac schnitzer badge the previos owner fitted, going to replace with stock bmw one ![]() didnt like the finish near the washer jets so gave a skim of filler to try and get it to sit right ![]() sanded it down and started painting but was a bit cold and paint reacted. ill get some more pics up tommorow when ive painted it properly. also ordered carbon canards and some dtm mirrors ![]()

lol..i spent 9 hours on it. i was mega paranoid to make a hole that big in my bonnet. everytime i went to cut i had to drop the grinder take my measure out and double check!lol its far from perfect first two vents have no rivets in as the shape of the bonnet wouldnt allow the fibreglass to sit against the bonnet so couldnt rivet it without causing cracks/damage to the vent so theres now a bit of a gap. aslong as air doesnt get between and lift the vent then feck it, just another gap for heat to escape. likewise baba, friday was a cool night. was cool chatting to you and gav. sorry about eating the dog treat!haha lol
