sammys e36 tourer

Brought this just before xmas if i remember correctly. M reg 328i e36 touring. was a bit tatty around the edges and wasnt exactly the tidiest but was a good base for a project. came with a welded diff and lowered springs. did drift nice in streeto spec.

anyways decided to get the car ready for BDC either late this season or next so started to strip the car out for a rollcage that clarkey should be doing on the 17th.

as you can see lots of wires, ive stripped out lots(stereo harness etc) but in doing so ive lost a rear light so going to call in a electrician to fix and then finish the stripping wires job

In order to save more weight and to be a true dumb ass i decided to ditch the heaters..i will regret this im sure but long term plans include a heated front screen had to make a adapter to join the two heater hoses, copper pipe to rescue

bmwbuild001.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

mocked it up but wasnt happy with the heater transfer of copper especially as it sits under the inlet so wrapped it in old rubber hose then heat wrapped.

decided that although im going to be under powered regardless of what i do, i wanted to try and be competitive as possible with the original engine. so i ditched the nasty restrictive inlet manifold and throttlebody for the free flowing 325 items.

old ones off

bmwbuild003.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

swap bits from the old onto the new. notice the different width's in the chambers

bmwbuild009.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

going to be finishing the fitting this weekend as ive kinda forgoten where some of the hoses go...me bad. Also brought a scorpion cat back system and a de-cat front pipe for it which ill be heat wrapping to help compensate for lack of heaters/cooling

bmwbuild004.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

joining all this will be a carbon airfilter/intake and a spal race fan to ditch the viscous item. once running correctly ill aim to get a remap.

to meet regs also fitted some boot and bonnet latches i brought of jord(cheers mate)

riveted in so should be nice and solid.

brought few other bits like a matig spliter, chizfab spacers etc which will get sorted soon. ordered some coilovers which i got messed around on but be refunded shortly so i can buy some others. will fit rack spacers same time as coilovers.
also got a 325 open diff that mr mitch is going to weld so should be a nice ratio.

ok few updates today.

car had a huge sunroof and mechanism which would hamper putting a rollcage in. now although what ive done isnt very neat or tidy its the cheapist option especially as i cant weld.

original sunroof...

bmwbuild017.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

took it out and marked position of the bit of ali going in its place...

bmwbuild018.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

ali riveted in...

bmwbuild019.jpg - Image - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

started to rain so havent quite finished but more or less there. anoyed as managed to scratch the panel it so gota touch up the paint on it now!

If I were to remove the sunroof, I'd have just bonded/welded the original skin into the place, as it will save nearly as much weight and look a fair bit better.
