| I'd not bother with the random cheap ebay ones personally. I got mine second hand from E30Zone. Just don't mention drifting or welded diff's and you'll be fine. Get a 'wanted - stiff front and rear shocks for a 325' thread up You might well get a bargain, I did! (also read through all the for sale/breaking car ad's)15" steels? 8 wheels to drift on then, and those BBS RS's look lovely! |

| tail slider | yeah I will try the zone first, not a bad idea got nothing to lose ! my mistake ! i checked earlier an the steels are 14's ![]() Today i managed to take out the pedals (from both cars) and fit the manual pedals into the auto shell. ![]() The hole for the clutch pipe (from the master to the slave) was blanked off. A quick tap with a chisel and it popped out... i left it half done for a photo. ![]() Tadaaaaa ! ![]() the dash is also out and has been cleaned up. ![]() |

| tail slider | update OK ! its update time again and ive been busy today removing the manifolds from the engine and preppin the diff with a welder. The exhaust manifold studs were a bit of an arse and the rear two snappped (luckily leaving enough to remove them easily) and the front two came out altogether. ![]() Removing the diff after 92,000 miles worth of **** had been driven over was nice ! wasnt too difficult - just mucky ![]() ![]() Once it was drained and then removed like the engine/box it was treated to a steam detergant wash much better dont mind touching it now lol.![]() I can only just read the rusty tag, it says its a 3.9 diff which will give it one of the taller overall ratio's. Not sure what it will be like but I'm sure I will find out soon ! ![]() Here it is with the cover off, before welding... ![]() And after... (A very big THANKS to the legendary Jay Tomkins (the best tool/snap on man in the south west) for doing the welding for me...) ![]() Thats it for tonight, more 2morrow ![]() Last edited by driftnething : 26-06-2008 at 23:04. |

As for the 3.91 ratio - same as what mine is (except thats a slipper not a welder) - and I find the gears run out to soon for me.... thinking about eventually swapping mine for a 3.73 and see what thats like | |

| To memory, the diff oil should be 90w. And boy does it smell bad - I was draining mine earlier! Nice work. There's more to steering than more lock, if you can get quicker steering you'll benefit. Hence the E36/Z3 rack. But if you can get spacers on one of those too, it'll look pretty insane! |

| tail slider | update Today I finished painting the inlet manifold/throttle body and rocker cover... ![]() I also had a good scrape around inside the diff to remove all of the welding spatter that was left in there, after flushing it I painted the casing black too... ![]() Next I removed the rear end and gave it the traditional de-grease/steam wash ! It doesnt look too bad but the handbrake cables need replacing and the subframe mounting bushes are shot (surprise surprise!). going to fit standard ones "for now". next it will be wire brushed with a drill and painted. new pads were already fitted all round when i got the car and the shocks dont look old ! ideal. ![]() |

| tail slider | I forgot to mention that I have also fitted the new water pump/cambelt/tensioner to the 2.5 engine and found a rad from an e36 318is with eleccy fan. not sure if it will fit yet but looks like it will be no problem, I will have a better idea when the engine is in. e30-turbo - "hmmm might have to have a look at the rack on my e30 the z3 rack was a big help but"more lock" hmmmmm lol" ------------------------- theres never enough lock ![]() griffo20022 - thanks for the comment ! Yeah i must admit theres some serious bargains goin down here whats that guys name from the show bargain hunt on tv - i might put a picture of his face in the back window hehe. ------------------------- papercutout - To memory, the diff oil should be 90w. But if you can get spacers on one of those too, it'll look pretty insane! ------------------------ yeah that diff or tranny oil does stink ! uurgh i have a z3 1.9 rack (same casing as e36 rack but 2.9 turns) winging its way to me but i dont know when it will be here, so for now i will just do the steering angle. hopefully then i can just swap the washers to the new rack when its converted. i also want to make a bracket to drop the steering column - steering wheel is too high for my liking (feels like a truck/bus where the wheel is almost flat !) will ![]() |

| Don't bother with moving the steering wheel, get a slightly smaller one and if you need to, make the bucket seat slightly higher. Don't keep the seat angle flat either, best to have the front slightly up over the back too... |
