my mazda mx-5 1.8turbo

hello all new to site loving to so far, loving the cars and projects that are going on.

Heres my drift project: i bought a mx5 off ebay. 1600cc that was a non runner, came with everything that would be needed to get it ready (not), also had a half cage, bilstein shocks, fox racing alloys, 4-2-1 manifold and stainless high flow cat, couple of gauges inside the car.

after lots of hours and lots more parts i couldnt find out why i couldnt get the car started, so i had to bring the main reason for buying the car forward.

my gf has a mx5 that is down at dragon performance having some work done, and she had a 1800cc turbocharged engine in her, running 265bhp. so the reason i bought the car was to stick her engine in the car and have myself a car to learn to drift in.

Over the weekend me and my mate robin spend almost 12hours, removing and installin the new engine.

just off to mx5 mad to have the management wired in and sort out the exhaust.

what you think?

cheers kelvin

Just wondering that myself Looks a bit plain to be 265. Custom internals?

EDIT:

Oh, I see a shiney flywheel and a big turbo lurking in there!

Wow, that's going to be a bit wild. 265bhp in an mx5! Cool! Just a sugestion...but wouldn't it of made more sence to leave the 1.6 in and spend money on a good suspension set up if it's just for learning to drift? That's got to be an expensive re-build if it goes POP!
Power is nothing without control
Still, that's gota be fun to drive! lol

265bhp to learn with? You only need to learn power-over and you'll be able to drift everywhere.

Hope you have a 1.8 diff to upgrade to, the 1.6 diffs are a bit weak.

I love small rides with uber powers.... all you gotta do now:
1. drop it down
2. minilites or wellers
3. loads of spare rubber
4. weld or upgrade the diff
5. D W Y B ! ! !

thanks for the replys guys, as for dropping it, springs are on the way as the shocks are already upgraded items, wheels i was thinking something smaller for now so the rubber dont cost so much . the diff is the next one i need to do, this is my second rwd car the first being a 320 e30, that didnt have the power to go forwards let alone sideways. So a quick question: is there a easy way to tell if you have a lsd diff or not?

sorry mate dont no what D W Y B means!

As for my gf's car, i'm not aloud to say sorry!!!!!!

Floor it and count the black lines on the road. 2 is good, 1 is bad.

LOVE IT !

i have half a turbo kit built up with the msd ignition control unit.
When i get some of my other projects further along it will be turbo time

What turbo/manifold are you using ?

I plan on a equal length manifold heat wrapped with a small/medium sized turbo. Also want to install a charge cooler in place of the standard crossover pipe from turbo to inlet using the aircon rad and I have two elec water pumps. This should help with response. The cooler will be a tubular type custom fabricated for a purrrfect fit. i wanna have 200bhp @rwheel's not mad but certainly enough to have a lot of fun

good luck, how long do you think this will take you ?
will

Yes! Do that! You will not be disappointed!

If you're anywhere near MK I can give you a ride in my car if you want to see them in action. Brilliant shocks, worth every penny and then some.

Just fully poly bushes for the wishbones and ARBs, plus a decent alignment thanks to Garagemac and some decent tyres.

My car's also got a proper 4 point Hard Dog roll cage which has stiffened up the chassis considerably. I'm planning on getting a Flyin' Miata butterfly brace as my next handling upgrade along with some poly or solid diff mount bushes. Then I think I'll leave the chassis more or less as it is because I think that's about as good as it can get without major work.

But the shocks and alignment have really transformed the car.
