My 20v AE86 Levin - Drift/Track Spec

Alright I've been meaning to set up a project thread since I got the car about 2-3 months ago. Since buying the car I first had a comprehensive service done and got all the shell and mechanical components checked over. A compression test showed excellent results so was well happy with that too. And the shell is also in excellent condition with no rust. The plan is to either enter the car in drifting events or to enter the Time Attack Competition, or even both lol! But money is a bit tight at the moment as I've gone well over budget and continue to keep on buying parts. So the plan now is to get some trackday experience this year, in both drifting and grip racing. And then go full force into it next year. Whether this pans out or not is another story!

Anyway here is the spec list of the car that I know. I'm still not fully sure on the spec and I probably left out alot of it anyway, so I'll update as I find out/remember. Also if anyone spots anything or thinks that I'm mistaken in the parts list please tell me. I'll also try to keep it updated on what parts I purchase and fit, and also how I get on in driving/competing in it. I plan to get an onboard camera soon also so videos will be included.

The car is a 1984 AE86 Levin imported from Japan at the end of last summer. It was imported by Pro-Imports in Kerry. I suspect the car was a trackcar in Japan for a number of reasons. The comprehensive roll cage, gauges replacing dash (and no mileage, warning lights etc. on dash now), fully rosejointed suspension front and rear, engine spec, no interior/sound deadening, and seam welding etc. etc. Of course I dont know for sure but I still hope for the day I see it in a Youtube video from Japan!!

Exterior: (These Pics are pretty crap, some blurry and in some the car/wheels arent clean (just by the rain a bit lol). I'll take proper ones when I get the chance and change this but for now they'll do.)

P.S: Sunvisor in some pics has since been removed (I dont like them but since theres no fold down sunvisors inside, I probably should have thought about it more first lol!!)

Future Plans:

Well firstly I've ordered a 4.778 Final Drive (CWP) off Tokyoseven.com so hope to have that within 2 weeks.

I'm also in the process of hopefully getting a Bee-R Rev Limiter. At the moment there dosent appear to be a rev limit (or if there is I'm not willing to go past 8.5k+ Revs so havent found it lol). I dont plan on hitting it to often though as I dont really trust the Bee-R Rev Limiter to not damage my engine but on an N/A it should be okay. The odd bit of flamage fun will be a nice added bonus too, although it makes plenty as it is already lol!!

The next plan is to then work a bit on the exterior. The paint needs to be tidied up on the front and rear bumpers. I also plan on either (A) Moulding the J-Blood spats to the rear bumper and then respraying the standard part of the bumper and the spats the same colour as the car, and give the diffuser a fresh lick of black paint........ or (B) Going a different route with a different aftermarket bumper alltoghether and discarding the diffuser........... or (C) Get an aftermarket bumper and somehow incorporate the diffuser onto it.

I've also a few other plans and parts to get but I'll leave it at that for the moment till I know for sure.

Nice car, like the color match with the rims! Do you run on the street with the trumpets open like that or do you have a filter on them?

Well its not subtle I'll give you that! At night time it basically looks black and looks very mean, especially the back with the smoked lights etc. As for Takata harness, well I know there overpriced (well I'm getting it for about E300 which isnt bad (about £230) and its a genuine one from Japan). I' know you might think I'm just trying to be JDM Tyte Yo or whatever, and maybe I am but they're just a little fetish of mine lol. I think they look brilliant, the green against the black seat will look good, it'll go somewhat with the car, and they're actually an excellent harness, with a handy buckle on them. So all in all why wouldnt I get one?

Yeh I run with them open. The cars not my everyday car though so its not too bad. I planned on getting sock filters for it but to be honest I'd just take them off everytime drove it.

Cheers mate. I'm not too bothered with proper quality pics of the exterior right now. When I finally finish it and have it looking as I want then I'll take some proper ones (or get someone whos not terrible with a camera like myself to take some). Then you should be able to see the colour properly.

And on that note heres the idea for the rear bumper idea I'm considering. Its from Eric O'Sullivans F20 AE86. Its the Mercury R diffuser that I already have custom fitted to what I think is a BN sports rear bumper. I have to investigate it more and see if its possible for me to do it (and not crazily expensive) but I think it would really suit my car. And would be almost one of a kind too lol!!

**Update**
Well the 4.778 CWP (final drive) arrived today. Cant wait to get it fitted and try it out. But with the Galway Races on and ppl taking holidays and that I wont have it fitted till about Monday week. Still I'm not in a huge rush so it dosent really bother me. This should make the car very fun to drive lol!! Heres some pics:
