| Right... despite all of the futt buckery that's gone on with this car it's still in my posession for the time being. Not really done anything to it as not sure if I'm keeping it. HOWEVER, hoping to replace the wheels anyway (with MR Will's if they're still available in a bit) and I need to get some drift wheels for this wednesdays Pod. Does anyone know if the 15" wheels that were originally fitted to the e36 compact will clear M3 brakes? |

| buttercakes!! ![]() | some 17s wont fit the front either, they catch the outside edge of the brakes. you need some m3 contours really *hint*as will says most 15s won't go on the back, i've had a couple of 16" alloys that don't fit on the back as well, although this is by no means the norm. i'd honestly just stick with 17s. they allow you to fit good widths of tyres which the m3 will enjoy when you want to do some more faster skiddings. tyres are cheap to buy new, and easy to find free on tyre piles. |

| Cheers guys. You're right. It's just trying to find some shitty 17's locally for little money in order to get to Pod that's causing me hassle at the moment. Or even shitty no-grip worn 19's for the wank that's on there now. I'm tempted to youc Contours ren, to be honest if I can't find anything today I'll probably get them from you as a drift wheel. Still want Will's BBS's as an everyday wheel once I know if I'm keeping the car or not. |

| Will, you aren't going to DWYB tomorrow by any chance? I'm desperate to get along to one at the moment but need to get wheels sorted. Ironically getting yours would allow me to use the 19's as drift wheels until sold/replaced. |

| May take you up on that dude. Do you have the tyres to hand for them? Not necessarily fitted as I can obviously get that done. Would pick up the camber arms at the same time. Where abouts are you dude? |

| Right... to all of the above in one I guess. I've bought Will's wheels. It was an epic mission today that I'll go into some other time, and in some other place, but the out come is that the fronts are fine but the rear tyres are already popped due to arch rubbage. Long story, lot's of humour... another time. I'm hoping to keep the car after today. Had it along at DWYB completely standard and it was AWESOME. To cut a long story short the money I was going to spend on anything modification wise is now just going to be spent on track time and tyres until I feel the car's holding me back. If I just keep on top of the maintenance I think that'll probably be a long way off. Was quite happy with the occasional linked run on the Kidney track for a first day and don't feel like there's anything I NEEEEEEED to change about the car to make it skid better until I'm MUCH better myself. GOT TO: Fix the problem caused today by the diff mounts being shagged. This means new subframe bushes, new diff bushes and new mounts. Get a slightly smaller steering wheel. Get the arches flared so Will's wheels fit under them. Replace rear brake line. Get powersteering pump. WOULD LIKE TO: Get the front and back camber sorted so that I don't have such hilariously lopsided tyres. Replace down pipe so it doesn't fart quite so much. Ren: Once all of the above's done I seriously want your wheels as skid wheels. I'll look into fundage. Most important thing is MORE SEATTIME. As a result, this 'build' may take some time before anything really interesting happens. |

Fronts look cool! Get the arches rolled though and then you can run a more sensible 215/40. You might get away with a 215/40 now, but it will catch when drifting I think. As for bushes, Powerflex are fine for subframe mounts and trailing arm bushes, and AKG from the USA do differential mounts in Polyeurathane. Both available off of ebay. Replace the front diff-mount bolt too while you are at it (and Loctite it!), and try and crack the nut off the fore-mounted subframe mount studs, rather than unscrewing the whole stud as it can get damaged. Any help/advice you need just give me a shout. | |

| Basically Danny, Loz and I looked at it and there was enough clearance for me to get home before worrying about rolling them. However, this was before I'd put the (oddly heavy) 19's in the back. With them, and me, it was a different story and by that time everyone else had driven off! Doesn't matter. Got home but need to do the work to the subframe and diff. The diff mount bolt has sheared thanks to the stress put on it by the (diff?) subframe mounts. Not a problem, the prop didn't work it's way through into the cabin because of it so everything's still watertight, the bolt and subframe mounts can all be replaced and then it'll be fine. Only thing that's worrying me is that I think the diff lost some oil because of it. May need to get a rebuild on it sooner rather than later. |

| Yep, E36 diff mountings suck. Basically you need either poly or solid diff mounts. It is the movement of the rubber in these 3 bushes which often loosens up the nose-mount bolt, and combined with some torques often shears it! Good luck drilling it out the diff case, I'd recommend a machine shop! Mine was the same and was a nightmare. Mine is fully poly'd at the back now, including the 3 diff mounts. Works great. No more slop and no more sheared bolts! Re the rubbing, yeah, with all that load they would rub, since your ride height would be pretty slammed at that point! Ah sorry man, I thought you were going to be drifting on the 17's and chavving it up home on the 19's! |
