If I had a way of cutting the tubes to fit around the cage and I had the skills I would have a go, I don't think I do so it'll have to stay like it is unless I can find someone to do it for me at a good price.

Good stuff Mart your welding is indeed getting better. I enjoyed welding my box section too though, maybe it's something about the relatively thick section and large volume of metal to keep the heat circulating meaning it doesn't blow through when you wack some effort into it.

Get it painted stat though, don't want it going all manky as it makes painting a flange, plus it's getting colder every day and soon it'll be too cold to paint properly.

We can make a jig for tube notching btw, it's just a drill with a hole saw of the size of the pipe, then a clamp on the base for the tube. We could then get kinky with our cage ties. I noticed my front leg and a-pillar were shaking at santa pod independant of eachother, meaning I need some more cage ties to keep everything together. Oh we can then make dash bars too to join the mid point of the front legs together, helping to prevent side impacts crushing out legs ala what nearly happend to Danny Eyles.

Cheers man, welding is easy though when you got clean, tight fitting, thick metal. Its also really satisfying as well.

A coating of paint will be added over the weekend before I leave it for a week to go on my holidays.

In that case maybe we'll have a go at some cage tying, means I need to repositon my fuse box though.....

Cheers.

Had another busy day today, wanted to get all the bare metal painted so that I can be happy to leave it for a week while I take a well deserved holiday.

First thing this morning I got to work with a pressure washer to wash off all the muck that had been left over, very successful all th shit was removed.

Left that to dry in the sun while I got on with some other jobs (pressure washing the patio to keep the missus happy, lol). Then I rubbed down the engine bay and gave it a nice new coating of Tetrosyl White, now it looks freaky fresh

Once that was done i decided that there was enough time left in the day to crack on with the interior, so that got rubbed down, the windows got masked and the Tetrosyl Black cake out, three tins later and my thumbs are very sore but the interior looks good

The rear half

and the roof

I will admit the interior isn't completed as I run out of paint, I still have the footwells and the doors to do but all of the new metal is now coated.

I also spent a few hours scrapping the black shit that Ford decided to stick the foam onto the doors with, a lot of it is off but there is still a lot to come.

Anyway I can leave the car for a week now to go and relax on my hols, more updates when I'm back.

Last weekend my dad brought me back my gearbox with fresh new synchro's and new oil seals, so well I had his time I got him to help me get the engine back into place. However he did sit on the screen and broke it with his fat ass so he now owes me a Sierra heated front screen, lol
Engine in place

the gearbox is also in place

The diff mount got killed after I polybushed the rear subframe so there was no way I was paying £100odd for a polybushed diff mount so this week I knocked up a solid one

with a coating of paint

mounted on the car

If anyone is interested in a Sierra solid diff mount they are for sale at £30 each, for track use only
Spent the afternoon re-assembling the rear subframe as I had dismantled it for storing and put it on the car along with the rear shock and springs, which I removed another coil from the back before fitting them
Finally its a car and its on the floor but no way low enough, think it needs about 2/3 coils off the front and 1/2 coils of the rear

Feels like the car has really progressed in the last two weeks btu work will be slow as I am moving house in 3weeks time.
Left to do:-
Run new brake lines
Fit dash, wire in new gauges and switches
Fit headlights and sort out their earth points
Fit rear section of prop
Clutch cable and throttle cable
Fit wipers
Weld in roll cage
Build new exhaust
Run new fuel lines
I was hoping to get this done by the begining of December but with me now moving house I'm hoping to get it done by Christmas

Don't forget Mart. That the lower the sierra goes the more it makes the car want to straighten up. i.e. lots of toe-in and neg camber.

Screw you Rob, you don't have the lowness disease! You don't understand! I lost the BDC entirely due to lowering my car (caused fucked suspension and utimately fuel tank death), but it doesn't matter cos it looked badass!

Mike is right Rob its a disease, I just cant help it, it looks low but its just not low enough!! I mean I have a scrape over 5fingers clearance under the front cross member I just can't allow it to go out looking like that. It must be lower, I need compete with my lowest car of show Retro Rides 2007 award.

Oh and I can get rid of camber and toe, there must be a way

Looking awesome... I'm going down the Sierra route myself... may be getting one of those diff mounts off you soon.

Welding definitely is an art that takes practice.... I remember it well. Especially lying in the snow welding jack points in my first ever UK car. ah, memories.

I'm looking forward to following in your footsteps soon. Keep up the good work.

Comedy balloon spec sidewalled tyres have gone and been replaced by some sexy 45 profile tyres. Sits much better now, after talking to my councilor about my problem I have decided that the back is low enough, but the front needs to come down lower, 1 coil should give me the four finger lowness I am looking for and keep some ride quality.

Been busy over the last few weeks and been doing more work on the car, none of it really picture worthy though.

Brake lines have been routed and bled so I now have a working brake system, I also decided to attach the rear half of the prop, only ting now is its so tempting to take it for a drive. I've rolled in backwards and forwards on the driveway and all seems fine, but damn its loud without any exhaust after the manifold.

I've also made an aluminium centre consol for my gauges and switches, wired in the majority of the said gauges and switches, and intsalled the dash need to make the binnacle work now though and need and 87 plug.

Moving house next week so probably not gonna be able to do anything else on the car until late Nov early Dec, but it feels like its getting close to done

left on the list

build exhaust
fit roll cage
run fuel lines
sort out some electrics lights wipers etc
run permanent fuel lines
paint it up nice

some pictures

fitment

lights fitted and bumper, dont like the way its been cut by the previous owner

oh and its too high!!!
