bit of progress.

I have bought a 1.6 16v corsa sport engine mated to a carlton gearbox for the chevette. Its running an ecu and been rolling roaded at 120 brake in a chevanne. its got everything including custom exhaust manifold and prop with it so should be a pretty straight forward swap.

Hopefully be picking it up late April and have it all in working by mid may

got a few other bits and bobs too add like poly steering bush etc

ill get pics when i collect the engine

Right well.

I have fitted the poly steering coupling which I can say is the worst job ever to do on a chevette. And i have fitted a new wheel. had to hack the boss basically in half to get it to fit though.

I finish uni forever thank god on tuesday so hopefully the engine will be in by the end of this month

Ill keep everyone posted one anything happens

Mint car. I saw it at oulton the other day and ive seen it parked up there in the past. Love it to bits.

c16 is a good choice. Often overlooked but with as much development gone into them for 1600 class rallying, as has done its big brother 2.0, its just as capable, and of course, lighter.

I saw one of these a while ago but it was a blue 2 door with LET in it. Awesome car.

Im really not sure sorry, all I know is that the x14xe and x16xe are small block and i think anything over c20xe etc is the big block. If your box is from an 8v i think its the big block engine needed as when i was looking into a redtop i was told to find a manta box

actually saying that the carlton box would be for an 8v so ignore the above. if you want me to take some measurements i can

shouldnt need to cut the tunnel mate! nice yoke though! you using a manta back axle? standard chevette ones only rated at 100bhp? (didnt read back throught the thread so there may have been no point in me saying that!)

Looks awesome mate! Get it all sorted so next time I go up to my dads we can annoy loads of walkers in the high peak by making retro-sideways-noises

If i dont have to cut out the tunnel I will be laughing should be in in the next 2 days if not. Cutting the tunnel is the only bit im worried about, have you put a carlton box in a chevette before then?

retro-ed yeah defiantly a cat & fiddle run is the first thing on the cards

Today I have managed to remove the prop box and attempted to get the engine out the old way with a bar and rope but no joy. Its bloody heavy for such a small thing! Ive cut out the old gearbox mounts which protrude into the tunnnel and removed the wings so i can weld in the new inners. found quite a bit of rust:

talk about rot. good job i got the whole inner arches and not just the repair sections

how it stands at the end of day 1:

Getting an engine crane tomorrow so if i dont need to cut the tunnel then it shouldnt be much longer before I get it running.

Oooh and miky-bo its the standard axle i've also heard there only rated at 100 brake but i know of people running 150 pintos no probs and with a welder it should be a bit safer

ill keep updating as progress is happening

nice one for all the comments

ah, carlton box i aint sure aboot, i know the 1800 manta getrag box will go in (could be the same box) , ive a type nine ford box in my kadett, (same shell) and i just had to move the gear lever hole back a bit.... ive heard that aboot the axles aswell, sure let me know how if it breaks! haha, might put the standard axle back in my kedett, so i can fit some dichuu wheels on! hah, nice buss though! good luck with it! actually, whats she like on the standard engine with the welder in? i have a chevette estate aswell as me daily, thinking about welding it up, but dunno if theres any point with all of 50 horses!

haha to be fair mate in the wet its a right laff.

round the bigger corners you have to be in 3rd and just dump the hell out of the clutch but it goes round fine. its definitely worth welding it up honest its not that bad. I'm just sick of it being soooooo slow

i don't mind atall mate. what front splitter is on that. you got any more pics of it? do you like the 4 doorness? I've been thinking about getting a 2 door saloon for ages but since im doing a fair bit of work on this i might just keep it.

mint estate looks nice on the wheels. have you flared the rear or is that just the reflection?
