Just a brief update before its unleashed on Lydden hill..

ive dont the usual 'leave it till last minute' panic again and have a relatively large list of stuff to do before it skids saturday, but unfortunately not the time to do it all..

must:
- fit rear camber arm (finally sort the rear camber out as peter was saying he had no grip with new falken 255's.. and my 225s at llandow were pretty terrible too.)
- get crappy tyres fitted to rims
- get alignment
- bash shit outa inner arches more.
- rip off EDC stickers, maybe replace BDC ones if i can afford it..

want to:

- Fit new gauges in temporary bodge style till new interior is sorted.
- Completely replace every hose and pipe on the car thanks to new sponsor.
- Fit new induction filter & relocate it to properly use the V-Mount rest.
- sleep.

ok very quick update...

New sexy parts arrived from Team Greens latest sponsor. Artel motorsport , who specialise is hosing and silicone products or road rally and drift sorted me out with a full engine bay replacement set

ther were a few pipes we didnt measure up that will be done at a later date.. but the majority were there.

So I set about stripping the engine bay piece by piece:

I then made a slight modification to the V-Mount ducting and re-assembled the turbo intake. Still only temporary as im not happy where it sits.. but alot better than it was.

HOWEVER..

I didnt get far because the stupid AST jobbie decided not to play ball and the join snapped clean off!

i barely moved it too, so the bittleness must have been through age. This put a blinding halt to any progress..

this is a pic of hte turbo gubbins back together and the hose thats left with the snapped join in it held up by a rubber band to stop the leaking water..

Off to Harrow now to pick up another one.

still got to refit all the pipework in the engine bay,
fit a rear camber arm,
buy & fit tyres,
get alignment,
do oil and fluid change..
oh and get to lydden.

If i cant get this ast sorted though... im not going anywhere.

sigh i HATE BDC prep.....

had yet another delay today..

went to get the old tyres taken off rims and BAM.. car wouldnt start.

after about an HOUR of playing with bits, trying booster packs and rewiring some of the cut-off switch.. we FINALY got it sorted. Brand new terminals and tidying up of the switch seems to have resolved it.

back to the list now.

2.45pm..

I think ill load up... get fully preped then attack the rear camber arm. If i run outa time i MAY do it at the track.. and then align it by eye.

will have to see.

OK so the weekend happened.. and what a mental weekend of ups and downs.
Friday:
Well after the previous update about the water AST breaking thursday night.. having to go to Harrow (about 2.5hr drive) to get it replaced.. gettin home at 2am.. then friday going to change tyres and the electrics refusing to play... packing up the rex and general flikster-like flapping, I finally arrived at what is soon to be Demon Road HQ at 7pm!

Mike 'ceffy' was having resident mechanical leg' Norfy give his car some repairs/tweaks and adjustments

whilst mike was hard at work with more important things:

USDM Toliet :

Then it was the FC's turn for love as Norfy attacked the camber bar for me.. the one thing i really wanted on for lydden so i had grip.. something Peter barber had warned me was lacking as silverstone ate the inside edge of his brand new 255/45/17s

with the FC.. its adjusted by a single vertical bar.. Norfy adjusted it as SHORT as it would go as it seemed to have the best effect (all by eye). Final result was this:

After lydden hill I can say its STILL go alot of negative camber.. no idea how to approach this now.. so its something ill be asking on other forums.

The rest of the evening (after realising we weren't going to make it to the track before the 8pm deadline...

was spent drinking, xbox, pizza, more drinking, chatting, towel flicking fight (jack vs Ceffy).. laughing at jords lack of burnout 3 skillz, mocking Hammonds shirt lifting and general fun banter.

Thanks Jack & Norfy for being good hosts.

Saturday

We went to bed around 3am.. and woke at 6am..

loaded up and headed to the track:

On route we decided to 'clear the cars throat' and give it a brief bust o speed.. apparently My driverside sideskirt was not happy with the situation and broke off for a rest at the side of the motorway!

Thank you Jack for stopping and retrieving it for me!

Morning:

I still had to fit some of the pipework to relocate the induction kit properly and sort a ton of other niggly issues.. I still had NO tyres on rims due to earlier fails.. so had to wait for tyre guy to turn up..Big thank you to team green (bart/matt C/ mike C and Alan) who sorted the pipework issue while i was doing tyres, getting changed etc..

note the fire extingiusher clamp:

the culmination of all that was i was late into first practice and only managed a total of 2 laps. My first lap i basicly drove as i wanted to see how the car felt with its new grip etc.. a few clutch kick corner exits etc was about all. 2nd lap was pure grip fail.. the handbrake REFUSED to lock using the technique i did with the s14 and the new-found extra grip and the grippy FC chassis did not help one bit!

came off the session very disheartened.

Matt carter then borrowed the car for the pros first session. did quite well and was fun to watch.. however apon returning it turned out he had managed to get a puncture in one of the R888's!

more flapping ensued. Alan came to rescue lending me his Federal 595SS's to use on the front.. spacers needed swapping and other faffing about meant once again I was late to second session and AGAIN, only 2 laps. A bit better, but still grip racing most of it.

Yet more 'flikstRR flapping' and at point of giving up.

Afternoon Qualifying

At this point i have to thank Mike ceffy and Jord. Jordan for his input between final practice and qualifying.. and Mike for calmin me down, not taking hte piss at all and suggesting a new way to enter the first corner now that i had a fail handbreak..

both of u.. and frankly some closed eyes, foot-to-floor speed and a 'fuk it all or nothing shouting' culimnated in the most SATISFYING 3 laps of my 'FC drift life'

it just 'worked'..
it wasnt perfect by any means .. i just went for the clips best i could.. trying to keep the speed. and just get a clean exit from the course. Regardless of if I got top 8 or not... those laps were SO MUCH FUN.. it was enough to make all the crap from the morning dissapear. I also got a cool reaction from the other semi-pros on the hill watching it when i returned. Bad-ass! Thank you all for your positive feedback.

Top 8!
I couldn't believe it when i was told i qualified 5th. (i think lol) I was so chuffed i dont think i even remeber where it was.. i just heard my name lol.

I went out with the same attitude i did my quals with.. just have fun, go balls out and see what happens..

UNFORTUNATELY.. i managed to do practice fine.. although not as good as my quals.. i was confident. So I thought screw it... I'll try even faster!..

I did it.. i held it.. i linked it.. right up to the last corner.. where I managaed to hit 5th!! instead of 3rd.

was sooooo gutted.. thought I'd thrown it away.. so i was cursing a bit.. and thought right ill repeat that but focus on that last shift..

same again.. flat out.. held it.. linked it.. got to last corner. LOOKED AT THE SHIFTER.. then managed to hit 1st..

Matt Carter had warned me the box felt sloppy and i needed to fix it... but i had not had an issue at all till then. I was GUTTED. thrown it all away.. and so dissapointed..

I parked up and began to whine to the others in a comedy fashion how i had won 8th place.. till wayne stole it from me with a spinu set.. so i figured 7th was mine.

I couldnt believe it when i was called to podium! i was practicaly speachless.. which in itself is an achievement! lol

chuffed to fuggin bits. A massive thank you to all involved both behind the scenes, sponsors, friends and team green. An even bigger thank you to Alex my fiancee for helping me in everyway..

its only a 3rd place, but to me its a victory after the speed this car was built. and the effort, time, blood, sweat and money put into it.

hopefully the first of many podiums.

Fair play mate! congrats! do you know if any vids exist of your runs?
Also do you have a short shift kit on the car? They're pretty cheap off ebay/mrc and do make the 'box feel a bit tighter/notchier..
RX7's for the win

You got a pic of the camber bar you used phil? I'm suffering the same hing now that I've dropped the HSD's some more. I've also seen some camber adjustable rear arms, want to see if they're the same as your bar dude.

Theres a pic a few pages back of when it arrived. if you have found rear arms for an FC??? hook me the hell up. cos the bar at full short still gives me negative. I havent had an alignment since i installed any suspension parts and TRUST me.. this car does not go in a straight line. Its why Matt Carter refused to drive it.

@fadam: I WANT THAT STICKER :P
@SLAMbert: Thanks dude. they are awesome cars.
