Still wanted something that everybody else don´t have so i bought Chevrolet Camaro -78 for project car I don´t have too much extra time (and get my daily living from cars so building them at freetime isn´t always that fun), so i went easiest way and did get ready track car for basis, without engine and tranny. It´s former Roadsport V8 trackcar and had been running Chevy 350 SBC and 4-speed "saginaw". Builted for racing at early 2000 and had been rather fast, it has descent rollcage, pretty much done to it´s suspension, some glassfibre parts and willwood 4-pot brakes in every corner. I did my current racecar -> http://www.driftworks.com/forum/dri...4-m-power-red-opel-kadet-c-coupe-finland.html also from former trackcar and thought that it was good decision, Kadett has been "win capable" car nearly from finish and it was rather easy project, i still drive this season with that. But lets see can i manage to do same with this whale, heck of more to do with chassis / suspension than with Kadett, but still don´t need to do everything from scratch. Engine and tranny is parts that i need to find first, i´m been thinking Chevy LS series V8 engine (it´s all aluminium and rather light) with Tremec T56 manual, highly tuned N/A or just Turbo or Supercharge it. I try to write some speclist from the car and chassis later but here´s few pics. Someone likes and someone don´t but personally i think that it will look descent when 10cm lower and some cool wheels underneath. {} {} {}
Cool as fuck. Id stick with the SBC and turbo it. LS is lighter, very light, but a SBC is still lighter than a 2JZ or RB26 anyhow. Ive seen a 100k old stock 350s with just a cam get turbod and got 738bhp@wheels, run 9.37@150 on drag strip, and last about 3 years hard use! Not exactly the reccomended thing to do on stock old internals, but it can be done! When an LS stock internals are on borrowed time at 600bhp or so, you may as well just stick with what you got.
I say fuck the engine mods and just paint it black, pretend its a trans-am and get a CB 'We got a looong ways to go, and a short time to get there....'
Finally found myself a reasonable prised engine & gearbox to start with, Chevy LS1 + Tremec T56 tranny. I think that if i have any time, i´ll put that in all standard for now and test a car litlle bit, then next winter, engine rebuild with better parts or supercharging. It was attached to some silly Nissan shell that never got running... {} {}
are you selling the SBC out of it??? i wanna build as many V8 engined things as i can,screww all this jap turbo malarkey!!
Little change of plans i did forget that LS1 engine and tuning it, i put it on sold. Instead of i ordered brand new LS3 crate engine from GMPP, that is used in 2008 Corvette etc. There are two variations from that, stock 430hp and LS376/480 version what gives out 480hp, only difference in those is camshaft!!! I ordered stock version and plan is not to do anything else but camshaft swap, little more agressive though than GM "hotcam" that is used in 480hp version. If you can believe in US tests, i can expect ~530-540hp with good longtube headers and properly mapped with right cam. Should be pretty reliable engine too... And the body, i will be anti-facelifting it Meaning it will be 1970 RS clone with split bumbers. I ordered 1970 fiberglass front end to it with RS extend and fiberglass split bumbers Tailpanel im going to change ofcourse also from 1970 with 4 round taillight and with fiberglass bumber. And rooflining / rearwindow is going to be also chenged. If it is going be be in same colourtheme it will be going to look bit like this, frontend slightly different Idid also find pretty interesting site, weights of Camaro parts 2nd Gen Camaro Component Weight Database Pretty huge weightsavings to be excepted with fiberglass doors, trunk lid, whole front end, lexan windows, all aluminium engine, interior stripped and useless crap removed... It shouldn´t weight much more than 1200kg
