Guernse E30 Pickup

Hi all. Ive just moved from the UK to guernsey and left my beloved rb25 s13 si80 behind in the garage, due to the 25mph speed limit and tiny roads.

after being here for a couple of weeks I found this e30 pickup - unfinished project for sale, and thought 'what the hell!'

It doesnt run, I had to tow it to my house! Collected it today. It was oringinally started 14 years ago and has changed hands twice since. never really been on the road.

Also the interior needs finishing and also the bed needs to be made water tight to keep the hydraulic motors dry.

I dont like the paint work its a bit im thinking of maybe satin blacking it or gloss blacking it, as theres lots of imperfections when you get up close, ie the dehandled filer is crackin and rust is showing through in places and fibreglass crakin and as this paint is so expensive and apparently impossible to match it in will have to be re-sprayed and its not my taste.

quite interested to see what the hydraulics will be like

But main priorites is to try and get it running/find out why it doesnt run, apparently it has compression problems and the old owner poured a jug of fuel into the engine to make it run as the fuel pump packed up!

and to make it water tight, sunroof has sunken abit. then see how well its been fabricated! what do you guys think?

It was parked in a green house for 5 years and is covered in a thick blanket of dust, so first job tomorrow is to wash it and see what ive bought

Not sure what to do with this lol and wondering what iv gottne myself into, comitted now tho!

its got wide arch kit on it and when the hydraulics are lowered down the wheels disapear up into the arch, also aparently you can lower it on the sump and get the front wheels off the deck, and it bouces really high.

I kind of wish it was just converted to a pickup and left in standard form, maybe with a set of coilovers and decent wheels but oh well, only live once!

yea it seems a shame to cover all that hard work and cash up but theres so much paint cracking and bits of rust here and there, it really lets the car down.

Theres no MOTs over here so im dreading seeing underneath it lol

I'll give you a 1er for the wheels

I reckon thats pretty keen tbh. Sell the hydraulics on to fund the repairs and coilys and you'll have a pretty bad ass drift/work/daily wagon.

funny you should say that! I bought an mx-5 for £200! lol plan was to rebuild the engine on it and fit it to heidis car then use her engine in that for myself, but the car was so rotten underneath i removed the engine and scrapped the car, then this came along

I bought this for something to do really, if i leave the island for good at anypoint i can leave it here and not really worry about what ive spent on it. whereas if i brought my car over it would be yet another car to arrange transport back home. also if this pickup get wreked im not that bothered but id be distrought if my car got wreked over here!

wanna swap it for your s14a then? lol

those wheels are genuine split rims, brand new with brand new rubber.

dont like them that much personally, i prefer schnitzer wheels to these but these are 4 stud so they'll have to do.

I googled E30 pickup and theres some nice ones out there so it can be done

also i think i need to buy 4 news batterys, as one for the engine side of things (then i can shut the window and use the electronic door poppers) and 3 for the hyrdraulics lol

at work weve got a 3.5v6 pajero pickup and i much prefer that, its got so much torque!

well i wanna get it running and road legal and see what the ride comfort is gonna be like (crap properly) before spending any more money on it.

I may need to buy another engine for it yet

good idea with the hydraulics is you can raise it back up to go over speed humps lol - not sure what it'll handle like when goin sideways lol, time will tell

this has been strengthened, built with reinforced box section, the guy who built it said that he had it bouncing like 6 feet high to test his welding and strengthening and it didnt flex atall. I prob wont bounce it, just use it to raise it up forspeed bumps

yea youd be surprised! lol!

Also sometimes you have to 'curb surf' which is legal here, some of the roads arent wide enough for 2 cars so you have to go up the curb and drive down the pavement

Well todays update! I cleaned it and you should've seen the dust pouring off!

it still needs to be cleaned again then a good polish...

crap pic as the sun was behind it (gotta love sunny Guernsey!)

this is the quality engine.... that doenst run lol!

And now for the imperfections in the paintwork these are just a few lol...

passenger side door handle cracking dunno what to do with this, thinking about knocking it through and trying to put a handle back there!

This is where the wide fibreglass arches meet the metal and have been filered, cracking!

And for some reaon theres this random black crap on the paint, on the wing and bonnet, not sure if its black paint or something else like underseal or somethin? Think i may need to use rubbing compound to remove it but dont wanna damage the paint just yet, untill i know what im doing paint wise.

I also stripped the interior out of it today as the drivers seat was insecure and the carpet and sound deadining was damp, and found a few holes in the floorpan that need welding up,

So im hoping Santa is going to buy me a welder as the one i used to use is still back in the UK.

I also managed to raise the sunroof back up as it had sunken so its a bit more water tight now!

also saving for a shot blasting kit. Inside the bed has lots of surface rust where it wasnt sprayed after the welding was done so thats another big job when i get some more monies £££
