Ian,

Been watching the progress with this project, but sad to see the hassles you've had with getting a manifold. Can't help but feel you've been messed around big time here...

Why didn't you get one from Japan? I'm sure we could have sourced a Hotstaff one for you. If you need help you know where to find us.

Miguel.

Hi Miguel,

thanks for your support.

This weekend is both exciting and depressing at the very same time.

Its exciting because the EDC championship is taking place only 10 minutes from my house and I'm going to support the drivers that have been fighting to get to where they are over the last few years. Its so good to see them getting the recognition they deserve.

At the same time its very depressing because if things had stayed on track I would have been trying out for licensing myself. Right now my target is to at least do a few rounds of eurodrift towards the end of the summer as I am already graded for that - if - we get the car done.

As for sourcing from Japan. The guys at SUMO Power have been very helpful with an efficient supply of parts for my car from Japan and they did contact HOTStaff regarding a manifold but unfortunately they wouldnt supply one to us.

The exhaust system was the least of my worries - the company I chose already had experience with a system for the F20 engine and ae86 body as they had previously provided a system to one of they guys in ireland - it fitted and made its power on the dyno so it was a no-brainer. I did not anticipate that a 3 week delivery time would extend into what has become 6 months.

My car has been sat under a sheet in NMS's build room for pretty much all that period. They are extremely upset they cannot complete the shell fabrication and get me 'out there'. They have been extremely patient.

The exhaust was supposedly shipped over 2 weeks ago on an express courier (3-5 days) but it has not arrived. If it doesn't come soon I may have to look elsewhere I cant just keep waiting forever.

you never know - next week could see all this mess resolved and work can begin again - I'll just see what happens but its hard to be positive based upon whats been happening LOL.

watch this space.

I know exactly how you feel Ian. Sometimes you feel you gotta make sacrifice you don't want to just to be able to progress. It can be very stressful to beable to nothing but sit and watch it gather dust. Here's hoping the exhaust turns very soon. Can you not check to see if it's sitting with customs somewhere?

Well,

here is the thing. I've been asking for that very piece of information myself and its not been forthcoming due to lact of contact with suppiler. If I had the number I would be doing the chasing - as I dont - I cant.

anyway - I dont want to say too much more on the matter until the supplier has had a chance to explain what is going on.

I really cant help thinking it would have been better to throw 6 thousand quid at a powerful 4AGE and be done with it - when the F20 is done I will not regret doing this conversion I'm sure - its just that all this waiting is putting a real dampener on the whole thing.

Well, if you are following this you'll remember back in post #316 of my build thread I said I was going to conduct an experiment.

The experiment basically went like this.

1. order AEM parts from a relatively unknown supplier in the USA.
2. send them to the UK using slow sea shipping.
3. see if my exhaust which was ordered over 6 months ago would arrive before the gauges.

Well - I figured the experiment would fail and the exhaust would arrive before the boat got half way through its journey from the land of the free - I was wrong.

Guess what turned up today

So that is 5 weeks from the point of order to them being in my hands even using sea shipping - quite impressive.

as for where my exhaust is ? who freakin knows

hyperdrive count down
wand/hand proximity meter (also switchable to the accident probability meter)

er...

The UEGO is AEMs own wideband sensor and gauge (I think its based upon a bosch o2 sensor) to measure air/fuel ratio. Its more useful at the point of mapping but still useful to monitor.

The other 2 are there Datastream gauges designed to plug straight into the ECUs mapping/logging bus. Each one is switchable to display 19 different readouts that the ecu can see direct from factory sensor inputs already on the engine harness. There are also additional 'unused' inputs on the ecu so you can just add the senders for whatever else you wanna see (e.g fuel pressure, exhaust gas temp etc.) without buying a separate gauge. By default it displays the following.

engine load
throttle position
intake air temp
water temp
O2/AFR
vehicle speed

You can also set up others along with thresholds for upper/lower warning limits just using mapping software.

I was gonna run with 5 defis but I decided these were a neater solution and also very configurable. (geek)

So i maybe have 4x60mm Defi BF Ambers and a controller for sale if I dont fit them into the skybus. They are brand spanker new and lovely just maybe not useful on this project.

Not opened em up - all the useful ones you need for an NA setup. I've had Defis in 2 of my other cars and they are real good but it makes sense to use some of the features the AEM provides to get the most from it.

Aye - looks like the man has done a crackin job on it from the pictures - I just want the wait to be over now.

Hey Ian,

Just looking through your pics there and I was sure that was a pic of my manifold we took after the last ' modification '.Thankfully it couldn't be as the stainless looks very posh compared to mine which has been flame grilled !!!.

Hope it arrives soon so you can get on with the real fun, cutting big holes in the floor and hacking up cross members !.I don't envy you but I can assure you its worth the effort.Drifting past big heavy datsuns and the odd supra never gets boring !.

Oh and you've got the custom anti bump steer tie rods on upside down there my good man

Cheers Mr Cas - you are too kind.

Just this minute arrived home from a shitty 13 hour day at work.

I got an email from the exhaust people containing 2 consignment numbers (1 of which is my exhaust - but they were not sure which). I put them both in the parcel locator at track.anpost.ie and they are both invalid.

What a complete pile of fecking wank.

Right now I would get pissed out of my fecking brains but I have to get up for work at 5:30am and feck off to london for work for the day.

I am sick of this bollocks. maybe I should just take up golf or some bollox hobby instead.

PS I never mentioned it to you that you left a CD in the Mazda that time, some spaced out shit on that lol
