The Japanese one you're thinking of is Ark Design

Use to have the greddy in the Silvia. It's ok, small enough, easy to use, etc. Yes should buy a new one. But may be a bit of change is good.

I run a Gizzmo which I bought to replace the utterly shite HKS EVC5 unit the car came with. Its easy to use and most of all, works.

I had a HKS evc6... and it was the dogs danglies! i have an Apexi Avcr at the moment and much preferred my HKS ebc

not the easiest to set up but one read through the manual and your set! best boost control i have ever had from an ebc the electronic valve control from the HKS is immense... no creep or spikes

pricey but were it imo
