    Volvo 240 GL estate

Before i go and make a tit of myself and knock on this guys door.

Have any of you guys drifted a volvo 240 estate? I've look on the forum search under volvo but can't seem to find anything on the estate.

Though i do remeber seeing an old post of one i think.

Would these be ok to learn to drift or a pile of poo???

Being the estate i can bung lots of wheels in.

    thanks in advance

depends on the engine size really, it'll most likely be a 2lt in which case it'll skid but it'll probably just be good for learning in! 240's are kewl anyway, go get it!

    lol.

i'd be a noob to it anyway, other than being pax in my couzins 180 on a driftday at santa pod. Loved every minute of it!!!

Budget proper tight until my wife passes her test she will then have the fiesta and i can get my jap car.

thought this maybe a good learner car built like a tank and massive amount of space for tyres n tools

I've seen one skid in the snow, looked more fun than skidding my compact in the snow.

im a commoner on swedish forums.

they tend to use the 244 (saloon version) as opposed to the 245 (estate)

i had a 745 a few years back with the 2.3 8v and it was terrible for drifting as standard, needs a welded diff.

what you will want if you decide to go down this route is the 2.3 intercooler turbo engine with the proper 5 speed box. most have the 4 speed with overdrive. and many more have auto boxes.

the red block engine is immensely strong though, and can do 200k with ease (mine had 200k on the original clutch!)

if you can get the turbo, or get the parts to convert, then the redblock lump can take way over 300bhp on the standard rods and pistons.

the problem your going to have is the sheer size and weight of the car. the chassis rails are massive, and the weight of the sofa interior is likewise.

but saying that, you can do it, and there are plenty of routes. but unless your gonna spend decent money, you wont ever take it far.

my advice - buy it (if its the right engine) weld the diff, have some fun in it, then if you get good, change it.

    bit of insparation

thats an early 744 with a late 940 16v redblock with a turbo added. they never made a 16v turbo

so thats a bit of homebrewed swedish madness. and that was built several years ago now!

    awesomeness

Yep, they skid pretty well, you just have to use the weight of the car and a fair amount of manfoot.

BTW, i have a real tidy one for sale (no mot or tax currently) it can be bought for £200 as is, or i can MOT it and it'll then be more........obviously.

It's located at my workshop right next to Santa pod if you fancy a look.

    Pic.........

Yes they did do a 16v turbo engine in the volvo 940. but it was only sold in italy.

I'm from sweden and I live in sweden right now. my friend love the volvo 240, he have had 7 of them in 2 years... The engine is (as said before) really strong and can handle quite good amounts of power.
the steering angel is good from the factory too.

stiffen up the roll bar in the rear, or add an extra one.
chop the springs or put on some harder ones.
    weld the diff.
    put in a turbo.
have small rear wheels with high tire presure.

Tear out as much of the interior as u can, but something to think about is that the volvo 240, 740 and 940 are quite light in the rear end...
And it really is built as a tank... so chopping out some of the metall at the right places in the car won't be no problems.

and if you decide to put some money into it. look around in sweden, there are cheap tuning parts that are quite easy to get hold of.
I got a freind that do enginge builts and race car builts. He can get hold of everything you need + a good mapping.

    Good luck with your projekt!
