    Suggestions on engines for drifting??

Im starting a new drift project soon, and want to stick something different in it. Its a old skool ford, and was looking at going the normal Cosworth Turbo route, but was after peoples input on what engines to look at?

Was looking at maybe a 1jz conversion, but they are quite heavy from what ive read?

I would really like a LS2 or LS7 as they are quite light and make good power in N/A form, but i dont think one will fit.

Possibly Turbo F20c from the S2000 but cant find any power/torque figures and i would imagine they are torque less?

SO, as im not jap/german minded, what suggestions have you guys got?

    Cheers!

Didnt think of a SR20. Ally block and head. What power can you see from stock internals? i'd like 300-350 if possible?

F20c is about 235hp and 145ft/lb in stock trim. They take supercharging rather well

sr will give between 300-350 easy on stock internals, iirc polo ran 420+ on stock internals for a full season a couple of years back

They're about the most proven 4cyl turbo competition engine ever made, there's no reason they'd get hot over anything else barring people doing things wrong.

For 300-350 you may as well use anything, no point going fancy/expensive, and even a 2ltr at that power can have the same number in torque and fuck all lag, so it's easy.

YB or SR20 for easy and cheaps IMO, crazy to do anything else for that power level.

    350z V6 lump
13b REW (even stock twins give safe 330)
    3SGTE

Please don't go SR..... if you want to be different why follow the rest of the sheep??? I know they are a good engine, but everyone jumps on that band wagon straight away!!

SR band wagon passed on to V8's wich passed onto JZ's ages ago

SR is a competant cheap to replace , cheap to tune and will run 350bhp easy all day long. Can't be that many fords running them either ???

I like your idea of a 1UZF though would make an interesting swap

Bmw 2.5 (m50) then turbo it. ARP bolts and a MLS headgasket and the engines are good for 400-500 bhp.

But overkill when he wants 300-350, esp as chances are it's in a bay meant for a 4cyl, so more work.

If it can be adapted go for the Volvo 5cylinder turbo engine, low down torque and easily tunable and not many people have done it.

    Nothing wrong with overkill :-)

Everyone knows once you hit 300 you only end up wanting 400!
