As much as I love F1, I fucking hope it doesnt happen. At least not the Pall Mall area proposal. The chaos caused by just one major route being closed for a few hours is a nightmare, London would just implode if the track went ahead, London would effectively be closed for weeks. Every road would have to be relaid as you can barely drive 20yds without finding a pot hole. The idea of holding it in the Olympic park might have some legs though.

as carter says, can you imagine what chaos would be in major sections of london closed down for 1-2 weeks !!!!!!!!!!!!

not to mention all the closed businesses due to it.

The olympic cycling are such a shambles i couldnt imagine what it would be like for F1 !!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everyone that it is virtually not going to happen. Agreed maybe the Olympic park one may be slightly more feasible. But why are people saying it will be shut off for weeks?

It would be 5days at the most for the event, which is a lot! and would cause chaos, but it wouldnt be weeks.....

it would probably be closed for 2 weeks due to the construction of actual track.

Monaco is closed for a good 3-4 weeks in order to get the track built, get rid of all the domestic and non domestic animals out of the track, then markings, timing equipment, etc etc etc etc etc etc

    then stripping down

Dude it really wouldn't be. There may be odd days closed for construction along the way but the actual event it would be shut days before...

Ive just got back from Valencia street circuit. Every year I've been, they close the roads off on the wednesday, and its back open monday morning... then they clear up bits at a time, so its like road works.

All the timing and lines is done weds/ Thurday

Granted there will be way too much disruption, and a lot of road works whilst setting up, but they dont shut it off that soon.

But i still agree, its a pipe dream

setup would take alot longer than 2 days considering they do thursday/friday practise then sat qualifing

cant see any british work force laying 20-30 miles of barriers, tyre walls, netting, cable etc etc etc then grand stands, public walk ways, pits, etc etc etc

I get what your saying, but the majority of the walls are set up well in advance over time, then set the rest up weds/thurday. So Total closure of roads would be from weds-mon. The rest would just be road works, which lets face it. happen all the time in London as it is.... Only thing the goes round the track on a thrusday is the safety car checking the track (apart from Monaco).

But yea, I agree, still a lot of disruption. Just wanted to point out that places like valencia that use main roads only shut weds/mon.
London is a slightly different kettle of fish though lol

Do they lay new tarmac at Valencia though? I suspect not. They'd have to for a London circuit. Does Valencia have hundreds (thousands?) of bits of street furniture (traffic lights, bollards, signs etc) that would have to be removed and then replaced?

Ive spent the last month or so driving around the Olympic park and it would defiantly be a goer. As for central London... Cant ever see it happening
