i bought mine when i was 17, just respect the car is all i say, make sure you service it regularly and keep it in good condition. with regards to drifting, keep it to the track or nice open spaces, not on the road as all surfaces are different and once you hit a kerb there will be no end of trouble ![]()

insurance was on the up then but i think genereally like everything else its even worse now, i got quoted £1100 for a new policy on a mk3 1995 golf tdi and im mid 20's, make you wonder, no wonder you see boy racers in their chavved out 1.0 corsa's its virtually impossible to get insurance even on the most basic of cars, on the other hand i only pay around £500 fully comp on my other policy for s14a but thats with plenty of no claims, which will all change as i crashed it 3 weeks ago so come renewal date im a dead man ![]()

Under your dads name? As in on his policy? With you as a named driver? I think thats only possible if hes with a certain company who allows you to get the NCB aswell being a named driver.. Either way its ridiculous, as in reality, he wont be the main driver.. And probably invalidates your insurance, aswell as his at the same time...

Oh ok.... Your wording isnt very explanitory in your post... 99% of insurance companies wont allow you (as a second driver) to claim the NCB earnt by the main driver (irrelevant of whos ACTUALLY driving).... So when you try to take out your own policy, youll be a bit fucked....

im 21, been driving front wheel drive cars since i started at 17, although been driving RWD transits for work. just selling my primera gt on ebay and getting myself an s13. insurance for me with 1 accident and 2 years no claims is less than 700 quid, which after having a suzuki swift gti in my first year of motoring and paying close to 2k, is a real bargain ![]()
