David - are you going to noise-test every car before they go out on track?

I don't see why the noise test is such a problem. Why do people have to have a noisy exhaust, there is no need for them and its killing off events by having them.

I have been to the track today and hear some not so good things and most of it is to do with noise complaints to the council. Please for the sake of keeping events open to drifting make the exhaust quiet.

Yea rob, i honestly see what your saying but what about speedway, motox, supermoto, 2 stroke karts, anything to do with motorsport is generally loud but its only really motox and drifting getting a big hit in the past year or two, why is that? (not being a dick btw im just generally clueless on why) does the council get some sort of wage off legalised and well known motorsports? or are the just being cocks?

seriously i dont know what is going on considering you can here speedway bikes from 4 miles++ away and they are 125db+ (my cousin rides them btw)

Well I better not answer that question on a public forum but those that know me will know the answer!

The Teesside Autodrome site and the Speedway site is all part of the South Tees Motorsports Park. All of which are owned by the council. We simply rent the land off them. Therefore they have a big say on what is allowed on track and the whole set of noise issues is a big part of our lease with the council. As for the noise from the Speedyway I don't know how they get away with that. But I do know they have big problems.

All I'm trying to do is as Rob said and that's to make sure that the Council doesn't ban drifting. And btw we are limited to only a couple of super moto days a year because of noise.

Again back to what Rob said - there is no need to have a massive exhaust. It could ruin the sport.

And finally - yes every car will be tested.

For those who like or want to use Teesside could i have some feedback for Daivd please. We had a quick chat about what people want. What are you thoughts on using only the west track?
Reason for asking is that its a bit more sound proof than the main kart track. So less chance of noise complaints.
I am of the opinion that any drifting is better than none. The west track is not my fave but i would put up with it. What do you all think?

like you said, any drifting is better then none, do whatever possible to keep this place open because if this goes as im sure you know rob the only place for drifting for us northerners is Crail 200miles? or pod 200miles? atleast or maybe a track day at Croft but not worth the risks with £30k RS500s on track

so id be happy with anything really, just need a trailer

its just my personal opinion, but i dont think i'd tow my car the 200 miles to teesside for just the small track. i absolutely loved my two outings on the big track and would much rather queue for 20 mins to get 5 mins on the big track than be constantly allowed on the smaller one.

I wouldnt come for just the small track. I would if I lived closer, but I cant justify a 4+ hour journey for the small track alone

as i live just 15 miles away, i would travel for just the west track. but, i would much prefer the main track, and would travel every time for that.
like ren, i would much rather queue 20min for 5 min onthe main track, than be on the west the whole time.

rob/dave, do you "think" noise is transmitted less in the west track because of the layout/surroundings or "know" from testing? just asking because sometimes appearances might be deceptive, and the main track might seem louder simply because there's more cars on it. just a thought, not trying to be awkward. i'd be happy to help check it this weekend if you want

Just on another note. The practice the night before the BDC round seemed to work well. Even though it was just on the judged section. Not sure how this affected the noise?

I'm of the same opinion as "rgfinn"... My personal preference is the big track and can understand totally why people dont want to travel far to only use the west track.
BTW I only live about 6 miles from track so will turn up for either track.
If you opened both tracks would it not ease the noise problem a little, having cars in different areas and limiting the number on each track at any one time???
Just a thought... dont shoot me

yeah it'd be great to get a good solution to this. it sounds like the biggest factor is tyre squeal rather than exhaust note from what's being said. although, limiting exhaust note will most certainly help things.
so how do you reduce tyre squeal? not sure there's anything practical really (like keeping the track wet!). the only thing might be to limit the # of cars drifting at a time, which has been mentioned. i'm not convinced that the big track is louder for reasons other than there's more cars skiddin on it at a time to be honest. could the track be surrounded by a couple of rows of tall trees? might help!

i do have the perfect solution... those noise cancelling earphones that you can get.... someone needs to invent a huge version that works through teeside's PA system, cancelling all the noise... silent drifting ftw!!!
