| Renting a drift car DWYB Does anyone know if this is available ? If not I have an idea. Lets say I have an S14 and I put in a welded diff and set up the geometry. It would be for learners or those whose car is broken / in build and only avail for DWYB days at Santa Pod. If it was on site all day with a technician on hand and was all ready to go, including 6 tyres but no fuel. Would this be of interest ? Simple rules are that there is no insurance in place, so if you bend it you either mend it, or own it, or pay the difference in value ?? Rental rate of say £300 per full day or £200 per half day which includes up to 6 tyres. Any interest Allan |

| The post was to determine interest and pricing. Remember what is on offer though: 1] Full days use of the car--can be two or more drivers 2] Technician on standby all day to fettle & tweak 3] Technician to change the wheels 4] 6 x tyres 5] Not abusing your own car all day, so no mechanical work after the day 6] No need to trailer a car to & from the day Lets have constructive ideas on who would pay what and I will see if it is viable These things have a cost and value Allan Last edited by observer : 12-05-2008 at 15:31. |

| I agree with Curry-J. It's not really financially viable to offer this service unless you're rich/stupid/lucky. I know I wouldn't want to maintain a drift car for every knobber to abuse "oh this isn't my car I'll fricking hammer it.... No no I didn't break the clutch it just broke on me". |

as above, drift school things from 199 including instruction means that while you are offering a car exclusively for a day its still a lot more. not a dig, contructive more than anything. bear in mind people need to pay the entry fee you are talking near to £400 notes and i believe for that you can get a full day in a car privately with an instructor all day for that including all of the above

No offence, but it might not work if you're aiming at the drift market ![]() Personally, I think £200 would be the absolute max I'd pay for an S14 for a DWYB, with tyres and everything included.

| No I didnt say we would sit in the car. You can hear quite well from the sidelines. However if £200 is it, all in then sadly it wont work. Jamie can earn £300 in a day for his labour sales back in the workshops, so it would not be viable to have him standing around all day and have the shit kicked out of the car and tyres used for £200. Never mind, another idea shot to shit then. Sad really because I have someone paying me £400 to rent it for a track evening, as it is cheaper to use my tyres and car and time than use his own ? You would not put up your own car + fuel + tyres + time + transport car to venue for £199 would you ???? Honest answer is:- Allan | |

| No, I wouldnt lend my car out for £199, but then Im not trying to run a business out of it. Not being funny, but my first drift car cost me less than that all in, and my second (Nismo diff, HKS coilies, 300+bhp) wasnt much more than 10 times that ......... so after 10 days I ahve my own car to keep ![]() As for not clutch kicking ............. wtf? How are you supposed to drift without clutch kicking evaaaah ![]() The people doing it for a living buy the cars cheap, set them up cheap, pay the instructors as little as possible and probably only just break even doing 20+ a week. For a one car operation with nowhere to drift its not viable IMO ![]() |

| i was innacurate, driftskool is £250 for a novice course. nobody is having a dig, so dont take it personal. its more than most people would be willing to spend when there are other options, albeit not the same, at less money. I personnaly think you would struggle to get much interest |

| Even if that WAS the going rate, and its not, youd need to be pretty minted to afford that. And if you was, youd be able to afford your own easily. And then youd not have someone there to discourage you from clutch kicking etc. DWYBs are bargains for what you get if you got your own car, but 400odd (300quid, plus 60 entry, plus 40 on travel/food/etc) is a fricking expensive day out in a basicly modified S14 skidding round some cones. |

| How about renting it out without Jamie covering the whole event? Maybe you can get someone to hand it over in the morning, Jamie check it at lunchtime then someone to take it back after the day is done? That way, you can drop the cost needed for him to not be slaving his nuts off in the unit and standing by the track instead listening for clutch kicks ![]() |

| I was not looking to make it a business per se' but between Jamie & I we have a few cars lying around. Jamie is within 300yds of Pod gates and I have read on many threads where people either want to start drifting and have no suitable car, or their car has broken or is behind schedule and they have already booked one of Lex's days. This was just an idea to accomplish--get more newbies into a drift car, use some of the cars we have, assist guys who want to drift but their car is not ready etc. It needs to be viable in that it turns a small profit and we retain the asset but that is normal practise. I hear what Docwra is saying but many do not want to commit to a £3k Drift car to find that they either dont like it or cant do it. Never mind really. If it wont work I have not lost anything by asking Allan |

No tyres except the two on the rear, get your own throughout the day, no fuel, get your own throughout the day, no entry fee again pay your own......So what is that worth in hassle factor, tyre & clutch wear etc ?? Run a poll if you like and I can measure the viability. Allan
