Search ebay for RWD cars you can afford to buy, then take your shortlist to various insurance websites and see what you can wangle on insurance. Get a very small list of cars that you can buy and insure, then search on here and trampdrift.com to see what people think of them.

It will probably go something like this...

volvo 340
volvo 360
bmw e30 316(i) or 318i
bmw e36 316i
ford sierra 1.6 or 1.8
old school ford
old school opel (ie RWD kadett, or ascona etc)
old school toyota/datsun (ie RWD starlet, or similar 70s random shitbox)

When you've decided on a car to go for (doesn't have to be amazing remember, you can easily buy a better car when you can afford to buy/insure one) you get your diff welded and then go to a practice day when your car is all freshly serviced and everything works on it etc. Something like Santa Pod or (looking at your location) TrampDrift SouthWest events would be perfect for starting.

Then just keep on top of vehicle maintenance, have a laugh at events, and enjoy yourself.

Don't concern yourself with competitions unless you get good very quick, don't concern yourself with making the best drift car evaaarrr, just get something that does the job and that doesn't let you down all the time.

Over time as your skills grow and you notice opressive flaws with the car, you can modify it as necessary or buy a better car etc.

Good luck and welcome to DW btw.

MJG speaks sense. Buy something cheap that will do the job to learn in and crash (you will) and as you improve get a car to match your abilities.

Basically do what MJG said.

I'm not sure if you have done this already, but get any thought of getting something Jap out of your head now. There are very few Jap cars that you're going to be able to insure at your age and they usually are a lot harder to find, buy, fix and modify than your run of the mill sierra and yet will not be any better at going sideways.

And finally don't get caught up on modifying. There are a few guys on here in your age group who plan to buy an insurable car like a 316i or 340, then rip out the engine, stick a bigger one in and modify the crap out of it before they've even driven the car in question . I'm not going to give you the lecture about declaring mods to your insurance company, I'm just going to say try the car properly before you start dumping money into anything other than Drift days and spare wheels + tryes.

Good luck!

Yup, if you bought a standard e30 316 it would be better than you for QUIIITE some time. I only just about hit the limits of mine and I've been drifting for 3.5yrs.

Well I was young once, and I have not had thousands to spend on cars/insurance, and neither have I had Daddy buy me £15k's worth of SR22DET s14a. So I feel I am in a fairly good situation to give advice lol.

I notice people really seem to have a bad impression of me lol, I give a bit of useful advice and people practically die of shock
