| gripper | New to drifting... Am very shortly going to pick up a EGI (non turbo) RX7 FC3S. Before i do though i thought i'd consult you guys? 1. Are they good for drifting? 2. are they any good in a straight line? aka are they fast or not so ? 3. (i have tried the search engine but got nowhere) If i weld the diff, is it going to be possible to drive normally or a pain in the ass. Been trying to find a bit of info but i dont get very far, get mixed reports about all 3 questions. Any help would be much appreciated... Ben |

| need to get rid of the rear bush things that steer with car under pressure, and ideally get more lock on the wheels. ther a little harder to get the back end out but they drift pretty well!!! and speed wise they not bad!! its enough anyway. i had 130 other day and it still had more. but i dont know how accurate the speedo is! |

| gripper | yeah i'm on the rx forums already and seen 2 different ones. I do really want an RX even if its not the best choice (and my other mate has a BM) but i recon if i learn in something thats not 'easy' to drift surely that would be better for me ? Its still early stages yet, need to sell my Nova GSi first. Cant afford 2 cars, thanks a lot for the help guys. Soon as i get this RX gonna need someone to weld the diff. Anyone got some more info on the welded diff issue ? Hard to drive normally ? Thanks Ben |

My main reason for welding mine was cost...it was about 25quid for me to weld it or £400 odd for a 1.5 LSD...and I'm broke! No brainer for me tbh!Welded diff topic search if you want more...trust me there's hours of reading on here! Good luck with the rex if thats the way you end up going!

Piece of piss. The inside rear wheel will skip at less than 20 mph, parallel parking is a made slightly trickier (but negligable (sp?) really, I parallel parked backwards down a steep hill with a welded diff the other day and had zero problems). Tyre and bush wear is increased slightly etc etc etc. But sh*t mate, you're drifting, what do you expect? lol Just get it done and stop being a pansy. Rx7 - expensive to fix when broke. BMW - cheap to buy, cheap to fix. Rx7 - more fun. BMW - guaranteed good starting point. Plus's and minus's on both cars. Both cars are used at competition levels etc, BMW might well be better to start in tbh. Get a E36 325 DIRT cheap, wreck it around, learn to drift properly, kill it, flog it, buy RX7 and get drifting well! *edit* and learn to use the search button, it'll save you a lot of grief ![]()

| gripper | Alright then mate, thanks for the info. Thanks for the advise about the BM also, BUT i dont like BM's very much at all and i have an eye on an RX at a reasonable price and pretty much have my heart set on it. If learning in the RX will be more difficult than a BM, surely once i have learned to drift that, drifting most things will be easier. VERY appreciative for everyones help and hope to be drifting soon. |
