been having the same dialema (sp) myself recently as im going to be selling my e30 soon, m3 or back to jap turbo ? i've owned 3 e30's, and an e28 m535i, 2 s14's and and an r32 gts-t. i test drove an r33 gts-t the other day gave it a couple of little drifts and now i've totally decided thats what im gonna go for as it drifted effortlessly in the dry compared to my bmw's (admitedly my e30's all had open diffs and the e28 had an old worn sport diff) and in my opinion jap RWD turbos just feel more right for the job to me although i've never drifted an m3 although i have driven one.Last edited by robbs : 25-06-2008 at 23:01.

Repair? Repair what? Look after your M3 with good, clean oil and treat it gently from cold and it will be bomb proof. I've not had to repair anything on mine, apart from the crappy plastic rad mount clips. Amazing cars.

As I said on the phone Mark just get whatever you want, although I'd say a cheap, slightly beat up s14 slammed on some dirty chromes with 15psi and a drain pipe exhaust will be just up your street, then relax in the coupe when you want to drive chilled out, no point in having 2x e36's. You can drift perfectly competitively with an s14 and basic basic mods, and they aren't spethial "M" cars, just run of the mill bullshit nissans.

Add my 2 yen of worthlessness Like most things depends on how seriously you want to get into drifting. From what most guys here tell me, S14 are the best to learn to drift but I`m no expert.I`m here in Japan where parts for Jap cars are extremely accessible, so factor in not only reliability, but parts prices and availibility.Power/weight ratio would be an interesting factor and turbo vs. NA platform.Either way, if you`re looking at investing most of the coin from selling your bikes you have plenty to get a good machine.Good luck and make sure either way you get all the bang for the buck that you can ![]()

My estimate on a M3 will be along those prices: M3 S50B30 - 2000-2500GBP (-500GBP for interior) Coilovers - 600GBP Rear camber arms - 100GBP Poly bushing - 180GBP X-Brace - 40GBP Strut braces - 30+30GBP Welded 188 open diff - 30GBP Straight pipe exhaust - 20GBP (it's worth going single pipe) Air filter - 40GBP 2 bucket seats - 100GBP (or 100 each for a better one) Hydraulic handbrake - 50GBP Steering rack spacers - 20GBP Decent offset wheels - 200GBP With this modifications you got yourself a drift ready car for about 3500GBP with the important parts fitted. Of course you can increase this budget more with a chip, stabilizer bars, adjustable top mounts, steering wheel, short shifter, brake hoses and pads, and so on. One thing you won't need to really touch on a M3 is the power. You can maybe try to make it as much responsive as you can (chip helps).

a two and a half grand M3 is probably going to need a fair few pennies throwing at it to get it up to scratch just in engine maintenance alone. i would have said nissan before but having a 328 and also seen how many times my mate has had to have his nissan engine out i think id prefer the german way, besides the more people that run them the sooner drift companies will get on the case making stuff for them , plus parts on old e36,s are pretty cheap now
