I'm ever so slightly further from Pod than you are dude (about 10 miles). I did it on Wednesday and improved more than I could possibly have imagined (3rd gear FTMFW). It's only a 3 hour drive and only a further half hour to Norfolk Arena, I'm going to be making the trip regularly now so a small convoy might be in order.

Norfolk Arena practices are on Saturdays. Handy for those of you who don't have to work weekends. Roundabouts are gay. Saw a tool clutch kicking an E36 M3 in front of me last night* - almost zero skill required. The difference between the shit you can do on the street (while risking getting locked up) and the stuff you can do at a proper practice is huge. Apart from the legal and safety issues - at a practice you can say "how do I do lefties?" in a loud voice and be in a car being shown how within 30 seconds. * I was driving home and despite being considerably more awesome than the guy in the M3 I just trundled round behind him all safe and grippy, because I need my licence. |

That said if it isn't worth the hassle of sitting down for two hours then give up. | |

You've got three options. 1 - you can keep on doing what you're doing - the odd skid coming off a roundabout, or a big glorified donut. You will almost certainly suck forever. Probably lose your licence and smash your car up too. 2 - wuss out and make excuses about it being too far away. Sell your RWD car to someone who will use it properly and get yourself a nice sensible hatchback and try not to think about all the fun you're missing out on 3 - man up and stop being such a fucking girl. Take time off work and drive to drift days, even if they are a few hours away, and enjoy learning how to do one of the most fun things you can do with a car without sitting in the back. You asked for advice, and the advice from everyone in the know is option number 3.

Yeah but to be fair since I live just round the corner it's hardly surprising. Plus I've been doing pod days for over a year now, and I still pretty much suck. I just suck a hell of a lot less than if I'd been going out in the middle of the night and trying to do the odd handbrake turn while nobody is looking. Also, I would go a lot more often than I do, but for the fact my car is always in a sort of limbo state somewhere between working fine, and being completely dead.

where is the skidding from roundabouts coming from? Someone else?I certainly havnt said that nor does any of my practice area have a roundabout! Driving 3 hours every time i want to skid on a wednesday of all days sucks, id much rather regularly track my car at the local track on a saturday easy to say just do it when you "live just round the corner", i asked for advice on technique not where to go

It's not about wanting to skid, it's about being able to afford it... I imagine most people manage one day a month if they have free income and their car doesn't break every event... I'm considering driving 9hrs to Scotland for a drift day so man up ffs. If you went drifting every week it wouldn't be as fun, it's like a mini christmas for me when I actually manage to get a track, I spend weeks looking forward to it! If you can't drift once a week and thats not enough for you then maybe you shouldn't bother.

| Norfolk Arena - on Saturdays and with part worn tyres supplied and fitted on site while you wait. Track is normally run backwards in the afternoon, so you get to practice both ways. Last edited by Captain Muppet; 02-07-2009 at 07:53. Reason: fix the quotes |

is it just me?.......or do other people not understand questions like this? did you struggle taking left hand bends on ur lessons when learning to drive? turning left or right never made a difference for me and drifting left or right doesnt ether
