Anyone up for a bit of Grip driving on Track ?

The winter is closing in (boo!) but it means that trackdays are getting cheaper for a while (yay!).

A few of the derby locals are off to Donington on Sunday 30th of October for some grip fun. At D1GP a some of you folks mentioned that you fancied some more track driving - so - is anyone up for it ?

I think its £100 and open pit.

I really want to get some high speed grip driving practice in the Skyline. I think it'll really help
It's doubtful my car'll be sorted for then though, when's the next one?

1.6l superleague sounds like fun. My bro will be along in his 1.6l stage rally car too - so it will be an interesting battle between FWD and RWD diddy engined cars.

The dates I have for dono are

23rd, 30th October
6th, 13th, 20th, 27th November
11th, 18th December.

Dingy will be along in the brute 500+bhp mk2 escort, prob a few other powerfull cossies and maybe some fwd corolla gti action too. Quite a few of dings mates bought a load of XR4i supershitters last year so they will probably be along too. Usually a fair selection of cars and drivers of all abilities.

Its deffo worth trying to do one. All you need to do is ring donington on 01332 810048 and book in.

I am pretty sure they will be using the short circuit so the 'loop' wont be included.

Phil, I think you are already doing the going fast thing - but maybe here all 4 wheels may end up pointing in the same direction and with less smoke

Passat may not be too bad TBH - I've seen a white astravan going round dono before with a roof rack - no ladders though LOL.

Will hopefully be down in Mondello for a bit of gripping on Monday the 31st so no can do. Did go to Donny about this time last year and it was awesome but mega slippy because it was wet out. Great track all the same and I would urge anybody who hasn't been to go out, especially at the price above

A 1.6 cup thing sounds deadly too haha. It'll most likely end up with somebody in the gravel though like last year lol i.e. me

Well,

it was great fun at donington today. The track was piss wet all day long which obviously caused some rather serious grip issues. I left the corolla with pretty much the same geometry settings as the wet practice day at silverstone on monday and it was slidy as hell LOL.

Managed to do the entire of redgate in one drift, the old hairpin in one continious drift, coppice was a bit nervwracking to begin with but thats the fastest I've ever drifted a car and it felt amazing - blind up over the hill. Was also nice to link the esses and onto the pit straight. I must point out that I was making sure there were no other cars in front or behind whilst any of this was taking place.

Was black flagged in the morning for 'spending too much of the lap sideways' - there was concern that 2 of the people who'd been off into the gravel were attempting to do the same I told the marshalls there was nothing I could do about the lack of grip and they were more than welcome to have a go but they declined. Its hard to get any grip at all in the wet - I dont think I did over 85mph on the straights as it was that slidey. We had 3 low speed spins all day.

All good things unfortunately come to an end and my engine gave up the ghost at about 3:30 (so most of the day enjoyed). Managed to limp the 15mins drive back from donington to my house and its tucked up in the garage now. Some serious knocking over 2,500rpm - just hope its the bottom end and the crank isnt wrecked. Just have to decide when to take it all to bits now and figure out what went wrong.

Strangely I am not hugely upset about this as I've had an entire 14 months of joy from my car and I have loved every minute behind the wheel. We knew it was going to go soon so hey ho (I blame james cock for jinxing my car ) Hopefully she'll be running again soon. No drifting for me next sunday LOL.
