Very effective! They are unfortunately banned for non-stage type navigational events here but National stage level are seeing people use them more and more. Much less current flow than a large Xenon unit, less weight and yet no less light output
Yes, the only downside to it is that it is more reflected from the fog, than xenon or halogen. You can improve that a bit by using yellow/orange film on the lamp tho.
