    JZX100 HSD's - Spring Rates

Going to need to get some HSD's for this chaser. Noticed on the blog Phil changed the 110's to 18/22. The shop says the 100 chaser is 15 and 8. Im not 100% clued up on spring rates yet however Iv used/driven loads of cars now with HSD's and the s15 ones now, feel nothing like they used to on my older s15.

My mrs has HSD's on her 15 and I want to make sure my HSD's wont be like hers.. Can I order them up with different springs?
Basically I just dont want the car to be at all 'bouncy' like her 15. Even with the dampness on the hardest setting it feels soft and bouncy, instead of hard and bangy. If that makes sence in my technical terms .

When I used this car last in Japan it squated alot under acceleration to the point where i had to run 215's or it would hit the tyre.. I dont want that.

In a nutshell, you want solid suspension?

Had these on my 100, and they were comparatively soft compared to the ones on my S15. I think it's more to do with the weight of the car, my Chaser never bounced like my 15 does, it took the bumps easy. Never really felt it squat (never had any rubbing) myself although people from outside of my car always used to say it looked like it sat down when I accelerated from stationary.

Depends what you want. I thought they were perfect for a road car with additional drift action, but I also needed stiffer ARB's to control the bodyroll from the car being heavy.

Well, yeah. I just dont want my car to feel all soft and bouncy.. From experiencing various other HSD's bought in the last say, year they feel different than they did when I bought my first set a few years ago.

I have been told thats due to spring rate. Which is why im asking if different springs is an option.

Mint: Regarding your girlfriends S15: I have never been in any car fitted with HSD HR suspension that I would describe as bouncy. If they are bouncy then there's something wrong with the way they are set up. They are no different in damper spec from when we first started selling them, but some kits have 1 or 2kg softer spring rates.
Regarding my JZX110: You don't want suspension this hard . I only went that stiff for wheel clearance, and I've not even tested the car yet. It could very well be undriveable. Also 110 suspension is different to 100.
The rates on the standard HR's for 100's will be compliant, so if you're after out and out performance we can change the spring rates to something stiffer. If you want to go ahead and order and mention 'custom spring rates as discussed with Phil', I will do some research and get you a good setup without having to smash your spine out .

I wouldn't have described the ride in my Chaser as soft, but it certainly felt softer in comparison when I went back to an S body with coilovers (not HSD's btw). One thing I would have never described the ride as would be bouncy. It took bumps very well, the damping always felt perfect in that car.

Damnit, you're making me want another one now.

I bought HSD's last year and would be interested in stiffer spring rates if you find a good setup to use, Phil. I need something stiffer for wheel clearance.

Greg, it seems that 15kg front is a reasonable spring rate for the front, I suspect that the current 8kg rear spring could be replaced with a 12kg to have a more balanced and slightly stiffer ride. If you want to try a pair give Kam a ring in the office to order. A pair of springs would be £50 + shipping and they are in stock.

Got these fine guys thanks. However the fronts were 15 and rears were 8. I was exptecting the rear spring to be stiffer as discussed.
The car does still bog down a bit on full load on the hardest setting.

When i get my wheels fitted I will re-check it as I will need to make sure that there is next to no play if I want to keep this low and usable. Whats my options regarding changing the rear spring for a stiffer one? Thanks.

Ok I will need to get something stiffer on the rear guys. Even on the hardest setting the car is still bogging down enough under load to hit the roof of the arch. Normal driving around is fine, quick driving is fine, clutch kicking and launching is not.

Im competing on the 26th at Teesside so would like to get some stiffer rated springs before then as discussed. Thanks guys.

Hey man. That was just a conversation with Greg. We haven't changed the kit. You didn't mention anything in the comments about different springs so you've just received the normal kit. We've got the 12kg's available. Greg hasn't bought a set yet, so I can offer them to you at the same price of £50 delivered to see if it works. They would normally be £80 + delivery.
If you want to go for it, just send us a Paypal payment to sales@driftworks.com with info about what you're paying for etc. Cheers.

Hey Phil, Yeah when I ordered them on the day of the 10% offer I put in the remarks something along the lines of. "As discussed with Phil different spring rates." Which was why I was surprised when the 15/8 showed up. Its not a problem but yeah stiffer ones would defo be a good shout mate.

Ok thanks for that in work so limited with what I can do but i'll get some bucks your way when I can.

Thanks for getting back to me man.

Odd.. Im fairly confident I typed that. I also have an email which was sent to James on the 18th of July informing him that I had left the comment on my order which says about the discussions with you on the forum.

Is it possible I can return the 8kg springs? They have been on the car since the 11th so only 6 days. Just money is tight at the moment.
    Thanks.
