Questions on welded diff and compensating for backlash.

Hey everyone i have a few questions; i took my s13 differential out of the casing and had it welded properly. I then got told by a mate that since i've taken it out of the casing i'll have to compensate for backlash.

My question is does the diff really need backlash sorted concidering the diff has already been knackered by welding it? How important is it to sort it out what can happen if its not?

    Cheers

Why did you take it out the casing?! Just extra work!

If you kept all the shims/bearings in the correct order and put them back in the same place I don't see why you would need to adjust backlash, it should be exactly the same compared to before it got welded.

Every diff I've seen have a fuck load of slop in them, so should be adjusted regardless. Would save a lot of drivetrain components.
    Your friend is correct
