Hi, I have an is200 with a supercharger, the air filter i got with it is old and dirty and needs replacing.

I was just wondering what to go for as a replacement, does it matter which one i go for? shape and type etc?

    Cheers

HKS Foam ones are shit for filtration but flow well for their small size.
Those metal only ones are a bit shit for filtration too.
Foam ones regardless of make fall apart in no time.

Personally I'd get a proper K&N and be done with it, and just fit the biggest you can fit/afford, no such thing as too big, but too small isn't good for performance.

cheers, I was looking at a flow rate chart, the k&n's seem to be the worse but the metal mesh ones are good but but for filtration as you say. Jetex seem to a good compromise?

Jetex is just a cotton filter, like K&N, Green, and loads more, all about the same, all fine. Don't worry about brand.

Not relevant to supercharged applications but foam filters are awful for high boost applications, say 2bar+. Their structure gets compacted by the suction and blocks air flow. Saw it on a R35 GTR. When mapping, it would not make more than 600hp, removed the filter and made over 1000hp.

That's restrictive air filters rather than it being foam.

It's nothing to do with boost pressure. Air filters dont see boost pressure.

If the air filter is too small, the above could happen at 1psi, never mind half a bar.

Bit random but what's the biggest K&N filter out there?

19in long, 14in wide, 7in high, and costs about 600quid in the UK

Yes to be fair it could, but usually it's when you have a big power application with a mahoosive blower.

The offending items in question were two genuine HKS mushroom filters.
