Hi Guys,
I have been having this strange issue over the last few days. Sometimes the car runs beautifully and sometimes its sluggish and lumpy but goes through all the rev range.

I am going to remove all the intercooler piping and refit as I'm thinking it could be an air leak. I have already cleaned out the MAF sensor which did nothing.

Have any of you guys had any similar issues or know what could cause this??

Thanks,
Tom

Also should mention that the car sounds and runs normal when coming off the throttle. The sputter also occurs in neutral.

It was given a service around May time but the car was not used just stored as it was unregistered. The car has only been on the road for the past week. It's strange, the car shakes when idling and is difficult to pull off, tryed replacing the ignitor with another one I have which did not cure the problem.

I am going to have a look at the plugs and coils tomorrow and see what going on. I was thinking it could be an air leak but could it be?

Will report how it goes, I have been looking up on Coilpacks and seen some wasted spark conversions. I see Driftworks don't do them anymore, anywhere else you can get them?

I ran the car last night and turned the lights on but they kept dimming aswell as the revs lowering and fluctuating.
Not sure if it could be a bad grounding causing all this now?!

When looking in my engine bay closely I came across this:

[IMG][/IMG]

I followed the wiring and it led next to the little grey box (looks like a ground) that looked like it connected to the AFM, also one of the ground on the exhaust manifold has snapped off but I have seen this on our R32's that have no problems. Should this ground cable be connected to something?

Grounding or shitty alternator? My alternator packed up the other day and did pretty much the exact same thing.

Just removed all my spark plugs and found that they are all really black and sooty. Also cylinder 6 spark plug had a little oil on the thread aswell, don't know if that is an issue??

Will post some pics up soon of it.

These are new spark plugs but have fouled already, I believe due to the fact the car is usually not ran long enough.
Can I just clean these, if so what would be the best way?

A little, it basically wasn't very happy at all. All lights, internal and external were proper dull and died eventually. Although from what you've put up since, could well be ignition?

Re cleaning plugs, a wire brush usually does it.

Cheers Disco, I have just cleaned one of the plugs with a wire brush and electrical cleaner and rag and it seems to have done the job. Will move onto the rest of them later, I also want to clean around where the coilpacks sit as that might be a contributor but don't want any shit dropping into the spark plug hole. :/
I had a thought that it may be my fuelling i.e fuel pump but the black soot on the plugs goes against that.

Any of you guys know what this is about though, have no idea?
Looks like a ground cable but links to a bracket thats connected to the cabling for the AFM.

Right..I have just replaced the spark plugs with some NGK BCPR6ES re-gapped to .8mm as they have been recommended. The issue still persisted even when I changed the plugs so I went on to remove a coilpack one at a time, all made a difference until I got to Cylinder 1 which did not! This would explain the Suburu sound. I switched the coilpack around with the one on cylinder 2 and it worked on 2 so it cannot be the coilpack. Problem is the plug on cylinder 1 has broken and has 3 spade connectors just hanging.
I have another spare ignitor module and a whole spare set of coilpacks which when used did the exact same thing, so this pretty much narrows it down to something to do with the wiring.

Luckily enough I recently ordered a new Coilpack Harness from the USA (The Wiring Specialists) which is made with high temp nylon and generally better material than the OEM harness. So will give it another shot with the new harness to see if that is the cause! :)

Just received the harness last night and fitted it today, the issue still persists. I am starting to lean towards the side of fuel but could it just be one injector? (cylinder 1).

I pulled the plug from cylinder 1 which looked a little whiter than the one in cylinder 2 and replaced them but like I said problem still persists!!

This is starting to do my head in, does anyone have any ideas??

Check the intake hose from the MAF to the turbo for splits (a guy on here had that issue with a CA), then swap the MAF for a known working one.

Then replace the vacuum hose on the FPR in case there is a small split.

Then pull the injectors and get them cleaned and flow tested, sounds like number 1 is partially blocked.

As Ben said, try and get the injectors cleaned up, but before you do make sure all the connectors are on the injectors properly. Mine ran like arse, it was missing and shaking, turned out I hadn't pushed the connector all the way down onto the injector. Worked fine after that.
