My manifold to turbo bolts keep coming loose, got a stainless manifold, is it possible to mug weld the stainless to cast? Any tips to get a strong weld Cheers
No don't piss around with welding it, what engine/turbo is it?? Chances are a turbo hanger/support will do wonders by taking alot of weight off the manifold. You might want to consider inconel studs which tend not to come loose. Is/was there a locking tab or lock washer on the stock setup thats not been refitted??
It's a ca18 with a t28, Iv made a bracket from the turbo to the bell housing to support it, no locking tabs from what I can remember either.. Tried every method under the sun bar welding and it keeps coming loose
I bought these, fitted them and never looked at it again. It's been over a year and all good. (SR20 T28r, tubular manifold, japspeed elbow) 4 x manifold to turbo exhaust studs M8 x 1.25 | Horsham Developments M8 turbo lock nut x 4 | Horsham Developments Also, buy a genuine Nissan gasket from driftworks or Nissan. Another thing to note if you decide to go full on and get new studs, be very careful removing the studs from the turbo. Get some heat and penetration fluid. They are known to snap. Trust me, you don't want them to snap Oh also I torqued mine but can't remember how tight...useful, I know.
Fit the stock manifold, there's no gains to be had running a T28 on a stainless manifold, it just causes more trouble than it's worth. The stock manifold is good for well over 300bhp on the CA.
You tried wire locking, or castleated nuts with split pins? (Not sure if you talking nuts and bolts or just bolts) Wouldn't want to bet on welding stainless to cast lasting very well. Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
And does your exhaust have a flexi in it? If it doesn't any impacts on the exhaust are going to be encouraging everything to loosen, either by backing nuts off or stretching bolts Would recommend getting both surfaces machined flat, new genuine gasket, drill studs holes out to go up a size and retap, double nuts with locking tabs and if you're not convinced at that point, a couple of spots welds on the nuts.
Tack weld the bolts job done. Easily removable and I never had a problem since But thats the hassle free way of doing it not the best way As the lads have said
A T28 shouldn't foul on the stock manifold, it fits just fine. Get another stock manifold and properly fit the turbo to it, would be much better.
