European Drift Championship - its here.

Hi all,

We can finally publically annouce the launch of the new Championship which replaces the D1GB for 2007+.

Information from the press release we issued today by email:

Quote:
Good afternoon,

Today begins the new era for Drifting events within the UK and Europe. For 2007 a new Championship has been formed, following on from the success of the D1GB in 2006. The European Drift Championship (EDC) will pick up where the D1GB left off in providing the most professional Drift competitions ever seen in Europe, pushing the drivers and the boundaries more than ever before.
With full backing and support of the 2006 competitors, the EDC will begin to build on the UK-based Drift strategy whilst developing and bonding our relationships with our EDC Alliance partners within mainland Europe, giving the UK and Europe a professional collaboration within the Drifting community with the interests of further developing Drifting as a sport at heart.
The full events calendar is currently being confirmed with the circuits and will be available shortly although we can confirm the first venue will be Donington on April 7th/8th 2007 for Round 1. Prior to Round 1 the EDC will also be providing a live demostration in the action arena of the UK's largest industry show, Autosport International which is held at Birmingham NEC from 11-14 January which will provide the EDC with a platform to showcase to the established racing industry that Drifting has finally developed into a professional sport within Europe as it has in other parts of the world. EDC will also have a static display in the main show where all interested parties can come and discuss the Championship with its officials.
The all-new website for the Championship has now been launched and can be viewed here : www.europeandriftchampionship.eu - As things progress in the coming weeks even more information will be recorded on the site for public release including the confirmation of the events calendar.
As with 2006 the Championship will also feature alongside the impressive Time Attack Series at circuits where possible, details regarding Time Attack will also be shown on the official site as and when. The site is : www.timeattack.co.uk
Should you have any questions or enquiries regarding the Championship, please contact us.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in 2007.

The European Drift Championship - News Desk
You will notice many parts of the site are already complete such as technical regs etc, most of which has remained unchanged from this year although we have some planned updates in future.

We know we will be flooded with people asking about licences as many other issues so to confirm this aspect straight away: Whatever licence you have from the D1GB, ie Full or Provisional, it is carried over to the EDC. At this time no other licences are valid, only those that have gone through our existing licencing system. Again there will be some alterations to this as we planned last year. The same high standard is required for the EDC with judging on the same criteria.

Any questions can be put here or emailed/PM'd to us, before asking, please have a good read through the new site and its sections and if you are still quizzed, please ask.

Thanks

Looking at the website I assume the rules and regs have just been copied over from the old D1GB?

If this is so, how strictly are the rules and regs going to be enforced?

I pulled out of attending the license day last year, as the vehicle I was going to use wasn't up to the standard required, but then found that vehicles that were used either to gain a license or compete were up to the standard anyway?

How is it going to be run in 2007?

Thanks

Excellent. Glad its getting bigger and better for next year.

One question, will Safety 21 cages be allowed? 6 point, CDS, with door bars, through dash but they are 40mmdia/2mm wall thickness so arent quite up to your required spec. Theres a rather nifty group buy going on with SRB at the moment. Would be rather handy if they were allowable.

Really glad to hear everything is starting to come together... as above though the website looks a little tatty. The text surrounds over lap and look like they should line up, but don't. Due to the colour, the 'Latest News' section looks like it's constantly waiting for an image to load and the whole page never looks like it's been optimised to use the full width of the browser.

Web page aside, it sounds like it's going to be an amazing season for drivers and spectators alike. Can't wait.

A web page should never use the full width of the browser, it should sit in the center and anything around the outside should have something that takes up the space with out needing the body of the site to stretch out.

Good stuff. Essentially it's the content that matters. great to see things moving along. There seems to be a myriad of drift championships popping up all over the place!

That said, the branding/site does need some work, knocking something up in frontpage might not create the right impression to the masses.

Fair enough mate. I feel so pwn3d. I really do like the content of the website though, makes next season obviously a much bigger event than '06.

Will there be events outside of UK as well? If so, in which countries? Well, good luck with the new series, hope the events will be worth travelling to.
