Seats & harness regs for this year

Yo, just looking at the regs and I see we need an FIA spec drivers seat, cool, and FIA spec harness, cool, but what's the score with passenger seats and harnesses? It's not 100% clear or am I just being stupid.

errr well actually.....

vehicles have to have a passenger seat - this can be the oem one

but only vehicles fitted with a racing seat and four point harness are permitted to carry passengers on the track.

sorry rob

As I understand it FIA testing is to destruction, so you may not yield the positive result that you were hoping for...

Cobra FIA steel tube ones ~£120 will be fine as they are stickered.

Regarding the Border seats... If you can prove to us that they are FIA spec, via a manufacturers letter, Sales Brochure or other means then we may be able to pass the seat.

EDIT:
I carried on looking at that Border website and this may be of interest to Mr MR-Stevo

what was that meatloaf song?..... you took the words right out of my mouth..... There is a FIA test house in england but as the seat would be scrap after the test it would be a waste

A question about seat fixings...

It says in the rules...

Quote:
Fixed using a minimum of four 8mm bolts (ISO 8.8) and 5 sq inch spreader plates.
So are the original seat mounting points not allowed?

This seems a bit odd considering theres no regulations about how the harness is attached to the car. Surely eye bolt spreader plates like the ones sold by DW, http://www.driftworks.com/catalog/im...olt-plates.jpg, are far smaller than the specified 5sq" seat spreader plates and are more likely to pull through the floor.

Dont see the sense of it if the harness possibly comes detached from the floor but the seat remains in place.

Maybe, but I dont think that they'll be changing the FIA spec seat requirements.

We try to leave a fair bit of the regs upto commonsense Steve as we do not want to overload people, strange though as when we brought out regs in 05 what an uproar that caused, and now drivers are asking for more more more information and indepth as well, shows its working and people are getting an understanding

Mind you it seems every other Drift organisation/championship/series is picking up on our rules and regs in some way and copying them it seems, good to see others following and implementing our standards of safety

Excellent news, glad you've got that sorted as I'd hate to be the miserable sod that stopped you having a fair crack at the competition

Yep, well, if Im going to get the car EDC'd Im going to do it properly.

I sincerely hope that standard seat mounting points are ok though otherwise it means some fairly serious modification to my floor pan.
