Battery regs

If the battery has been relocated into the car, what needs to be done for it to pass scrutineering?

Just a clamp?

Or a proper alloy battery box? Would a marine battery box do?

assuming the battery is the normal "wet" type of battery :
4-17. Batteries must be securely mounted and all connections in a serviceable and clean condition. Negative leads should be braided or have yellow identifying marking. Batteries housed in the driver compartment must be securely mounted in a sealed and insulated box

this really tells the story - it must be securely mounted in a box- aluminium isn't the best material as its conductive and so the battery would need more insulation.
the basic needs are to secure the battery and to make sure any spilt acid isn't slopping round inside the car

thankyou.

explains it perfectly. I wasn't being impatient, merely bumping it to the top of a very active forum. I appreciate your response.

We'll watch out for this one Marc

Dont forget to cover your battery terminals, gaffer tape is the usual material of choice for the job, in the case of an accident we dont want some conducting material pressing down on your battery and causing a potential source of fire.

I was considering a marine plastic battery box. but didn't think it would pass regs as they were cheap.

not much of the stuff that'll pass regs is cheap

i'm fitting the battery to the inside of the car, and will cover it with a plastic battery box. Not to worry, it'll be secured usinng proper battery clamps

Was thinking about doing it in the passenger footwell.

Youre right, it might have got lost amongst the other active thread in the EDC forum.

And that Steve Carter bloke is another on the list to watch Marc, seems his wanting to bring lots of people into the pits with him too.

He's a wrong 'un that one and no mistake.

Yeah, but he is stunningly handsome and charming though, so he gets away with it.

I looked through the EDC regs and its fine to have it in the cockpit but it needs to be in a sealed box. (it's quite far down the rules and regs if anyone is looking for it!).
