Should european cars be actively encouraged?

As this is a european drifting series, I would love to see a lot more non-jap cars, maybe it'll happen in a few years naturally. As far as I can see jap cars are used because of the avaliability of upgrade parts, which exist because drifting was started in japan, where european cars are a lot more expensive than they are here.

Personally Id love to see a lot more BMW M3's, some AMG mercs, Vauxhall Monaro VXR's (Australian I know), V8 MG's, and Audi quattros converted to RWD.

The more people run european cars and want to upgrade them, the more companies will make upgrade parts for them, I think it should be actively encouraged by the EDC.

I'd like God to help actively encourage intelligent, gorgeous yet nymphomaniac women to spend lots of time with me.

Don't think it's going to happen though.

I know what you mean mate, but people do compete in the cars that the parts are available for. The scene is always changing because it's so fresh, give it time.

Yeah I know its wishful thinking, and in time it probably will happen. Probably when drifting gets bigger in europe and companies that tune european cars decide to sponsor or run teams.

IMO, if anything, its about encouraging more multinational drivers, rather than their cars.

Good point, Im latvian, EDC license please? :P but seriously yeah, need some out of UK races though to get interest. Not everyone wants to travel to another country to compete.

My M3 will be EDC complient when complete, whether the driver is(me) - is another thing all together.

Last years D1 had Paul's Vasbloms M3 powered touring competing at a few events. So this time in 3 years or so I'm sure will have more non jap cars that will come through the ranks.

Because obviously, we all trying to drift euro cars, but every time we try, Glen, Andy, Maz, and the rest of the EDC gang beat us all with snookerballs in socks until we get out of our BMWs and Mercs and get back into our S and R bodys.

bear in mind that is the same bloke who suggested we all pull a Monaro VXR out our arses to drift in!
There's a fair few about who cant even afford to but a scrapper to tramp drift in FFS...I know, I'm one of em!

Why dont someone start using a vauxhall monaro VXR?

Oh and back on topic, as stavros obliquely pointed out, why use jap cars? Cos of the wealth of parts, cos you can fettle them a lot and cos they can be cheaper.
It's the drivers we want to vareity of with more than the cars surely.

And as for "lets get more rounds outside the UK", well Mr Spoonman do you wanna go ahead and try organising that then? I mean it's not like andy and glen have worked their arses with the D1 - EDC transition and are continuing to their very best to get top level drifting the exposure it needs.

"hello is that spa racetrack in belgium?...good...yes can I have the track for a drift battle a week on thursday?...hello?...hello?"

Nah f*ck it, tel you what I'll just declare my street as independant from the UK and we can all do some touge running between the traffic calming bits.

WTF???

there is no reason why a euro built cat built to EDC standard would not be allowed -

what would you mean by "actively encouraged"?

it would not be fair to have anything financial for euro cars
but certainly there is nothing to discourage their use

Whats with all the negativity... im just trying to get a conversation, and some of you are just flaming every post that you disagree with. And as for the monaro, in a few years there will be more and more money in drifting at the highest level, whats wrong with expecting they'll be able to afford monaros?

Don't forget the EDC idea is to have the top level of cars & drivers competing, no reason why a Euro can't be up there, but it needs to look & go the part. Looks cost little but go costs more, I'd love to see some old skool thunder saloon racers out there or Bathurst replicas, RS500's, top level rally'esque Escorts & the like.

J-Tin is cheap to build, parts are available so thats the easy part, if you guys started building some hardcore Euro's then I'm sure we'd all like to see them in action.

Julians old E30 M3 is up to spec & available to me as T-car, though I'd want to make it look the part if required, would'nt take much to do.

Drift demos in euro cars, lessons in them, anything that draws attention, so when people decide to get into drifting they dont think "oooh I want a nissan 200SX" they think "oooh I want a good RWD car".

because your question implied that you were asking why it isnt being done now? As opposed to at a later date The answer to which is...money.

RMR used to run a Pontiac GTO in FD (although it's been replaced by a Solstice IIRC) which is basically the same car, however unfortunately we're a way off of factory backed teams in the UK scene.

I know that, all it takes is time and exposure. Once people/companies with money see theres money to be made by supporting drifting, they'll invest. Money makes the world go round.

I have to say none of my comments were meant to insult the EDC's efforts. I know they work hard and getting a series together is a great achievement. And its too new to become an entirely professional series soon, but the drivers in the EDC are only gonna get better over time, so creating closer competitions, a greater spectacle and in time this will create money for them.
