| EDC Round 2 - Full-On Drift Competiton - this weekend at Silverstone Circuit This weekend sees Round 2 of the EDC Championship at the world famous Silverstone circuit, where over the past few years many European drivers have cut their teeth and learnt about full-on no holds barred Drifting, with a few of them now progressing onto other Drift events around europe/the world. Not many other venues offer such an exciting and demanding layout as Silverstone does and after talking with the D1 drivers who competed here in 2005/6 it is without doubt one of the most demanding courses for the drivers and cars they have had the privilege of Drifting at. With entry speeds of over 100mph (160kph) recorded at Turn 1 and a full-on high speed transition to follow this course layout challenges both the driver and car and leaves no room for error. The judging standards used on the day are recognised as one of the best in the world and adhere strictly to the standards set out (and required) to ensure the drivers are at a standard to compete on any professionaly staged Drift event. All drivers who compete in EDC know what to expect at the events they enter, this ensures they have a good time on the day as well as knowing all their hard work on and off track (with their cars) has a bearing on how they are progressing. We like to ensure that standards are kept the same at the events as this is the only way newly licensed drivers and the top drivers can compare their abilities and set-ups as the season progress's. Last year had some great battles (at the 3 Silverstone rounds) and below are listed the final 8, and their finishing positions, from the Tsuiso: ROUND 5 1st.Ben Broke Smith 2nd.Phil Morrisson 3rd.Brett Castle 4th.Damien Mulvey 5th.Tim Marshall 6th.James Hudson 7th.Tony Green 8th.Darren Mc.Namara ROUND 4 1st.Mark Luney 2nd.Damien Mulvey 3rd.Phil Morrisson 4th.Maciej Polody 5th.Mark Johnston 6th.Stephen Evans 7th.Paul Vlasblom 8th.Ralph Crampton ROUND 2 1st.Phil Morrisson 2nd.Darren Mc.Namara 3rd.James Hudson 4th.Brett Castle 5th.Paul Vlasblom 6th.Maciej Polody 7th.Glen Maher 8th.Niall Gunn As you can see the Silverstone Rounds had 3 different winners (as did the other two events at Rockingham and Knockhill) and the season was hard fought with a none too easy overall win taken by Phil Morrisson. This years EDC Round 2 event is being held in conjunction with the Japanese Tuning Show: Japanese Tuning Show - Sunday 3rd June - Silverstone Circuit, Northants and has happened because of the hard work and commitment that EDC has put into forwarding Drifting and ensuring that when we agreed to hold a Round here that it was accepted as a major part of the show and not solely there to act as a side show or to fill some empty space(s). JTS's commitment to Drifting is to accept it as an integral part of the Show which was important to us, as was our Round 1 that was held at the International Styling & Tuning Show (Donny) in April. So to summarise if you want to come along and watch full-on hardcore Drift competition at its best with all the elements and spectacle you would expect from a top level Drift event then this Sunday at Silverstone is one not to be missed. See you there.......... Regards, Last edited by EDC Admin : 28-05-2007 at 03:20. |
