So that makes 8 cars, meaning on any given day, half the top 16 drivers can be in cars whose running is paid for for by someone else. And then there are those like Pete Barber, yourself, and me, who have to pick up every single bill ourselves.

So whats next for you james or is that it for this year the time being. I must say it sucks, i wasn't at silverstone on sunday but was at donnington for the first round and really enjoyed watching you drive. I would suggest ideas but im sure you have thought of everything 100 times over. Gutted for you if this is the end for you so soon in the season. I must just say £1000 of tyres in a weekend makes me cry

Maz introduced them as they paraded out of the pitlane in reverse direction behind the golf cart. A bit different to the norm but I liked it, rolling burnouts and all!

I have to say its truely wrong that someone out there hasn't spotted you as a talent for the future James. You've done so well so far this year given that everything you've done has been self funded, why no one has snaffled you up as a driver yet is quite frankly beyond me. If I turn out to be complete shite behind the wheel of the R324 I reckon you'd be on my drivers shortlist mate.

Nope...but they didn't park up infront of BRDC stand this time and get out of their cars. Maz led the way in his golf buggy and just announced in order the peeps following him. A few rolling burn outs on the way round to start position under the bridge was it.

I've done the same since I started too, but I keep to a strict budget of £350ish per event and keep the car at a nice power level to remain competitive but reliable - I know I'm not going to win an EDC event anytime soon but I do enjoy each and every event, being around other drifters, having a laugh and not worrying about 'main sponsors' or my bank balance for the sake of drifting - it can suck the fun out of it very quickly. That's my personal ethos, I know that your circumstances are different and that's cool but having big sponsors isn't always the key, you just need to work within your financial constraints, it's the big hits/bad luck like this weekend that take it's toll so I hope you find your feet again.

No idea mate, wish i knew. All I want to do is drift, and now I can't LOL / Wish I had a way to do it (or a rich dead relative) but I don't

Thanks mate, means a lot. I'm not giving up by any means, I'm still gonna do my best to find funding/sponsors, but I'm realistic and know that my funds as they stand won't cover any more rounds.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I should have done the same, but each round has gotten more and more expensive since my first comp less than two years ago and I've just allowed it. Now I'm at the point where I couldn't even do it for £350 if i wanted to, most events cost me over £200 in fuel alone to get there compete and get home.

Thanks for all the nice words guys, means a lot

I have to say this is much my ethos too, Just entry fees & fuel alone is the best part of £500, add in tyres, though most events I'll use some decent part worns though this round I actualy bought a dozen new/used ex race A048r's that cost me £250. Add in bits like plugs & ongoing repairs it soon reaches a grand a round without even trying.

For me its simply being out there, I thoroughly enjoy getting out there & competing head on with those in machinery that cost 10 times what mine did. The total build to cost to date for my car is still less than £5k though sponsors have helped enourmously by supplying parts and goodies so you probably double the real build cost.

My annual car budget is almost the same as some teams spend on tyres in one weekend!

However for me to be out there qualifying in the top 8 several times last year, getting through to twin battles is a big bonus, I know I have it in me & I know the car is more than capable of a potential win, but my tyres would have been blown this weekened easily if I did'nt have the clutch failure. But bear in mind that reliabilty is often more important than budget as I proved last year.

So for those considering it, go for it but match your budget to your ambitions & anything better is a bonus.

Must admit it came as a bit of a shock when I totalled up what I'd spent for friday and sunday and I was doing on a proper budget, no fancy track day tyres for me. I did splash out and buy some new tyres but they were the cheapest I could find at about £180 for 4. Fuel was about £120, food and drink say £30, the entrance fees were £218. So about £550.

Which is why I wont be going to Knockhill as it would be even more expensive. I just dont earn enough to pay for an even more expensive event. I'll be at North Weald though, I'll have saved enough money by then, I hope.

Hi Guys - well I think all parties need to cool down and remember that you are all involved in a very special group. Very few other motor sports have what I have seen in the paddock and around the event. You all pull together and help each other enjoy a FANTASTIC motor sport unlike any other! People give freely of their time, parts and even cars to each other - this is special don't lose it. Paz was very upset about the issue but has moved on and is already saving hard to get the car sorted out for the next round and just like most of you he has to find every penny himself - but that's part of the challenge anyway. His car is underpowered compared to many out there but I have never heard him once complain about the power differences as he loves his AE 86 even though he wishes he could afford more power - lets face it no one can ever say he does not give at least 100%. I am proud of him and his passion for what you all do so well. I've now met many of you guys and I can honestly say you are a great bunch of people - so lets all pull together to make this sport grow and reward you all for your efforts and amazing car craft.
Sorry to go on but you need to take a step back and look at what you have all got a share in - FUNNNNNNNNNN!!

Anyway I've given you the respect of a reply so twist and turn it as you wish, you've made your intentions quite clear in that you have no real heart felt understanding or passion for Drift but solely have the right to have a voice/opinion that no ones actually listening to, sad but true............

I'll leave the thread open as if you shout loud enough someone who knows nothing about Drift competition might actually hear you and want to listen to what you have to say

The D2/SVA PS13 isnt a true 'works car'

I guess its a bit like bon bon, both attached to 'works' teams, but self funded with a help on parts/storage/mechanics where possible.

Daveworks FTW!

Nah I own it, but Ralph covers all other costs incurred via running it, and I do mean 'ALL' the costs (Tow cars, trailers, bumpers, tyres, fuel) so much the same as you guys. he bought the wheels, he bought the harness's.

He bought the new bumper after he broke my one, so same as you guys if it breaks he has to pay

He comes down to SVA to work on the car himself, took the old engine/box out, will be putting the new engine/box in. He installed the extinguisher battery isolator,, seats, harness helped remove the old suspension, did the alignment himself etc etc

Is he not sponsored at all? In that case, totally fair fucks to the lad, thats impressive commitment for someone who got to drive for free last year. Hmmm. maybe him and i have more in common than i originally thought LOL
