yep Ralph is a 'proper' drifter chap, enjoyed the free drive last year, but this year its pretty much his own money.

When I suggested he borrowed my car this year he said he wasn't fussed about the spec as long as it had at least 3 wheels and an engine! well it did have an engine before he broke it lol

DCY car is a "works" car if thats what you want to call it but , i helped build the car, had parts made at my own expense, going to the local tyre dealer and spending 4 hours at a time going through part worns to find tyres that matched prior to ESS coming on board, working in a barn during winter freezing my tits off etc etc

Last year i paid for all my entry fee's, travelling, hotels, fuel the lot etc etc.

This year as some of you may have noticed i've only competed in the EDC, the reason, lack of money, if i don't pay my entry fee's i don't run simple as that.

I bought a house over winter, anyone who has one will know how much of a strain that makes life...

I am very grateful to DCY and ESS (tyre sponser) to allow me to compete in the EDC but if i haven't got the money to enter any other series then thats my problem.

Thats the reason i'm quite happy to be involved with Eurodrift (start line and now with a mic in my hand)because if i can't compete i'd rather help the sport progress rather than do nothing...

we're also in the same situation.we've always funded si's drifting ourselfs.
last year si had tyres from falken, but at the moment we use part-worns.
this year we've had sponsorship in terms of a part for the engine from one company and we've had discount with someone else, but the rest we've always paid for. and he's built the car himself with some help from friends.

knockhill is just too much for cost wise for us and having children means we can't justify spending that sort of money.. i might still go if i can get a flight cheap enough or travel up with someone else, but the next EDC that si will be competing at will be North Weald.

u spent a grand on tyres........
who else has, realistically?

Some of the lads spent £200 on tyres, most probably spent alot less.
When it came to eurodrift u were the only one on super expensive tyres, u clearly had far more grip than anyone else at teesside as i said at the time (u even had grip off the road ffs).

U stated previously the tyres made little differance, if thats the case then raid the part worn bin like pretty much everyone else.

As for the rest, its the same as everyone else pays really, entry fee's, travelling costs and car fix costs when it breaks.

Ur good, dont get me wrong, but i dont see why u should be sponsored over others.
U got a sponsored drive last year did u not........

Think paz's dad hit nail on head

Living in Scotland like the other Scottish lads/girls any drift day is a major trek, and will incur increased travelling fees. I don’t think I have ever seen them sitting and moaning about it. I personally think this shows a lot of commitment.

If people are hitting financial problems then take a year out and sort it. Better to do that then to increase your debt so much you will never be able to drift again.

There’s too much emphasis on here and now, things will come, things in my eyes should not be handed on a plate to people. Not what life’s about sadly. When you do get there off your own steam you will feel you have achieved a lot more.

I have to admit I do loathe seeing posts that detail how someone can’t compete anymore and needing sponsorship and how they deserve it etc. Sorry but if you feel that strongly, don’t sit here yelping about it, go out and do something about it.

Ralph is definately in the budgeteer's category, yes he has the loan of a car for the year, but he puts in the effort behind it, pays all the bills too.

Even if I was offered a "works" drive I'd still want to be behind the running of the car, be that working on & setting it up, its what keeps me occupied in my spare time. Fook knows what I'd be doing in my spare time. No thinking about it I'd be down beach every day surfing

Thanks mate, appreciated. But I really cant afford it, theres only one pay day until then and the bills and mortgage have to come first.

Straight back at you though if youre coming to North Weald, I'm about an hour away.
