Quick question for Sleepy.....

What was the reasoning behind myself and Buff not running one more time??

Nobody, myself or Buff, or everybody I spoke to who was watching, could work out why we didn't??

I'd just like to know so I can avoid making the same mistake again.

iirc from commentary they felt buff's speed and closeness in the first run , where you lead , gave him a 6/4 advantage and you we're 5/5 in the 2nd.

He straightened in the transition on the first run but then had the speed on luffield. Penalise for straightening, bonus for speed? Can't see 6/4 with a straighten up when it's that close??? Ok maybe slight advantage with speed...

Second run I mimicked his dodgy entry except then accelerated up his inside on both corners, only backing down to let him transition.

If Buff was given advantage for extra speed in the first then I should have in the second?? Both corners I gave room on entry then drove up the inside in the corner. His clutch was slipping, physically he was just going slower than me.

Only other thing I could do to prove I had more speed was forced him off line or just driven into him...maybe I'll do that next time perhaps it's necessary.

I thought it was even and defo thought one more time. Glad i didn`t have to call it though as it was mega close. From where i sat in luffield A i couldn`t see you two after the entry to the final corner because they was so mouch smoke!!! Shame you went out bon as i`m sure you`d have gone all the way otherwise.

Well the thing is I'd happily have got knocked out by actually getting knocked out but both me and Buff 100% wanted to run again, I wouldn't have said anything because it's very easy to have 'selfish vision', except everybody else I met said the same thing. lol

outsider POV... very much deserved the re-run....looked awfully close.
think the time comment hit the nail on the head

I thought a one more time was in order, but I was also surprised when Buff straightened up on an earlier run and didnt seem to get penalised. You would have had a nice 350Z shaped dent in your car if he hadnt though mate

Definitely smokiest runs of the day though

I'll wait to see what sleepy says before saying anything about the time comments...

I think fair enough if he had me on the first run with speed, but I was all over him on the second run, way faster except for when I backed off on transition to avoid the whole big dent thing, then zipped up the inside too, so I don't see how that wouldn't be scored exactly the same. Even if I didn't nose past him, I backed off without straightening, so, hmmm.

Or...once again... why not one more time? I just want to know the *actual* answer, to clear it in my mind.

From where I was in the Brooklands suites, it looked like your smokescreen hid Mark's mistake from the judges view point so they never saw the mistake. Sad but true

Yeah it's been suggested, which would make it more understandable, it was just pretty sucky cos I wanted to run against Buff some more.

That's the most plausable explanation so far though.

Ben,

Given the current climate do you think asking this here is the best way ??? You could have asked Sleepy yesterday, or phoned him today/tomorrow/next week - its not like the answer is going to change anything or the lack of one cause you to die in the next few days either !!!

Most of the people in the Brooklands stand was a bit miffed with how this battle was settled too. I defo thought you deserved at least a 1 more time on it. Car sounds absolutely awesome btw at WOT

No I know Bladey but if you look I'm supporting judges decisions in another thread and this isn't an attack just a genuine question, I don't want to come across as 'self righteous' or anything so I just figured asking here would get me some input from people watching too.

If it offends anybody to be asked in public then I apologise I just genuinely would like to know that's all.

I do realise it may not be the best considering the climate but I was also kinda interested in opinions, basically because I don't feel as a driver with a single viewpoint it's possible for me to make an 'educated opinion'... I figure if I ask on here then it helps give me a bit of perspective too based on other people's opinions. For example, James commenting on the lack of visibility, I mean if that's the case, fair enough it's the nature of the beast and that sucks but life goes on. lol

I can easily tell you the answer.

After you guys had already done "one more time" then it was said that time constraints meant this second running of "one more time" would have to be it and as such any mistakes or advantages, no matter how small, would probably be the difference. When you guys ran, from our vantage point - level with the initiation and looking back into the heart of luffield 1 and the transition (as you know) we could see Buff straighten a lot. However the commentary from maz made almost no reference to this, just a mere "Buff may have straightened a bit there" and then followed by "Look at the speed he is carrying round the corner closing up on Bon Bon" or words to that effect. This obviously meant that they didnt see it - and frankly Im not surprised as the instant Buff was behind you from our perspective he vanished from view in YOUR smoke !!

I think it was a mistake, but a genuine one, and as I said in the other thread, I think as the standard goes up and the drivers get closer these mistakes will happen more often purely because its a fallible system, but I dont think extra judges would necessarily cure this, it would just make arguments between them happen more often too !!! All the other options like slow motion replays, video feeds from different parts of the track for the judge and so on are not financially viable or realistic in the time frame of the event.

Hope this puts your mid at ease mate - you rocked it baller style, as did several other people Marciej, Phil to name a couple.

We didn't run one more time Only ran once, but otherwise yeah Bladey that's much what I thought, I just hope it is that it was a mistake, and not time constraints. Mistakes, everyone's human and I can deal with that, I said to Sleepy earlier I think judging is a horrible job and I have full understanding how hard it is.

If we had already run one more time and it had to be decided in a split second, on a tiny difference, well it sucks but I can understand, however theorising that it's time constraints when we only ran once... I hope that's not the reality!!!

Boost pipes didn't come off Taff It ran on 5 against Alan because I did the plug leads too neatly and they were tugging off the plugs, then in the practise run with Buff it melted the small hose on the wastegate running to the boost controller and hit 1.9 bar coming up the straight...
