| top/bottom confuses me with brunters, i mean the corners where you would start a top speed run rather than end it. anyhow, cones can make the corner pretty much how we want it, and im thinking if we can shape it to be like a right hand brooklands, ie get the drivers to stick to the right hand sight so its a sharper corner, and itd be bob on. its something that can be discussed with the drivers on the day, its wide enough that we can have some variations. deffo brunters over coombe tho, for noise reasons. |

| Even if I am not invited I'd like to come and help. As for the Orange, well I might not be one of the fastest drivers, but Im getting quicker (5th highest entry speed at Rnd2) and it would be nice not to drive conservatively and let the car "go" so to speak. And before anyone gives me shit about how I should be on the ragged edge to compete at EDC I drive within myself as I know the car is more capable than me still and as such its stupid to try and outdrive myself and possibly break the car in the process. Car currently has 450bhp and weighs 1100kg's, I just dont use all of it in comps yet J. |

If grip is limited for the speed you want/need to go round its the quickest way round many corners. | |

| The only reliable way to test it is to use the same car and driver for both grip and drift runs - otherwise there's far too many variables. Drifting on a circuit allows a faster entry speed but slower exit speeds, although the advantage lies with the drift car until they reach the next straight, when the grip car will use their faster exit speed from the previous corner to decrease the difference. So, through a single corner, depending on where the timed points were set, the times would be very similar. A tighter corner might see the drift car gain time whereas conversely, a larger faster corner would see the grip car take advantage. Rallying on loose ground is a different affair as drivers use the sideways motion to scrub more speed than would be possible in a straight line but you'll notice that road sections are driven as normal in most cases, only 'drifting' at junctions and hairpins. |

| Pure and simple reason for the test is that most people think any bloody half decent car with a half decent driver (ie your average joe in a mildly modded hot hatch, scooby, or evo, not a mega modded car) can corner miles faster than any of the drifters do when drifting. And though most of us know on some corners (1st corner at silverstone for example) many of the EDC cars kick the shit speed wise out of your average motor, most who arnt into drifting dont realise. |

| Dori Mechanic ![]() | drifting can give you faster exit sppeds as well as you acclerating to push you in the direction you wana go a mild drift is needed and not mega big angle like i sed previous im putting my money on the midway grip/drift Race cars tend not to drift for the reason it kills tyres and in a race format overall you end up slower but on a sprint or short race its not a problem |

| tail slider | Just to add my 2 Pence Worth! Although I do love drifting I believe a Full on Race Car Tarmac spec compared to a Full on Drift Car would be quicker. I do see your point about entry speeds and that a Drift car could be quicker on certain corners. Two main reasons why it is quicker in the long run 1. If it was quicker round a circuit every race team in the world would adopt that racing style and you always see people losing time when they get it a bit sideways and 2. You would have to pit every two laps to change tyres ![]() Rich Last edited by Sonic Boom : 30-06-2007 at 13:44. |

| I agree, that, the speed of the drifter at silverstone is just outstanding, i look after race cars for my job, iv been going there for years. And i can catorgoricly say that most the drifters are faster throgh there than any of the club motor sport i have seen ![]() |

| theres a similar argument running on the replies to this video...but the guy doing the whining is obviously a total wa**er. I'd still love to see this become an official test... Although mitto's got an interesting idea or two about this i think. |
