| Driver entries and event format: Important News 2008 JapaneseUsedCars.com European Drift Championship (EDC) Championship driver, entry and format announcement We are pleased to announce the format for drivers who intend to participate in the Championship this year. Main entries into EDC will be restricted to 26 drivers for 2008 ( it has been previously unlimited ) In addition to the 26 drivers, there will also be a wildcard driver entry from the BDC ( as explained on BDC's website ) plus any extra invitation drivers which we may wish to add in future to benefit the Championship and the drivers. The eligibility of drivers for 2008 will work on a tier system as follows: 1/ All 2007 EDC point scoring drivers*, any D1GP,MSC or Formula D drivers + 1 X BDC Wildcard driver ( D1GP/MSC/FD/BDC DRIVERS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE 26 ) 2/ Any 2007 EDC Full licence holders ( non point scoring ) 3/ Any 2006 D1GB Full licence holders ( point scoring or not ) 4/ All other drivers from other events i.e. IDC/XD/PDI,PDE etc ( drivers at ''Pro'' level but currently not recognised under our strict licencing system, entry decision on ad-hoc basis to be confirmed by EDC officials upon application ) The entry process will start with tier 1 and if any spaces are available once all drivers confirm thier intentions it will work down the list of tiers 2 and 3 and 4 to secure drivers. Drivers who do not meet the criteria of tier 1 will be added to a reserve list of drivers once they have contacted Maz ( maz@europeandriftchampionship.eu ) and requested thier entry be added to the list of reserves which will be made in accordance with previous event participation, i.e. if you have a history of entering the events, your will be above those who have not in the reserve list. The top 6 Championship points standing drivers from the previous Round will no longer be required to qualify for the next event. These drivers will be automatically seeded into the next round although they can still participate in the quaifying session, thier performance is irrelivent until the top 16 competition. For Round 1 at Donington, the top 6 seeded drivers will carry over from the 2007 Championship standings and these drivers will have a seeded entry into the competition and so on throughout the season. This means there are 10 places available in qualifying to go through against the seeded 6 for the Top 16 competition. All drivers for the 2008 Championship must register themselves with Maz and arrange to pay for 5 of the 6 Rounds in advance and prior to February 29th 2008. Payment in advance is a new requirement and is in place to gain the drivers who wish to commit to the Championship with thier full support and in return will receive our full promotional support as well as a guaranteed qualifying place in the whole Championship with a reasonable number of professional drivers to campaign against, making the Championship more stable and easier for all drivers to make thier strategies to attempt to win the Championship. It also eases the burden of administration for us and may also make it easier for drivers to gain sponsorship for thier entry fees as a one-lump sum. This is an important aspect for drivers to understand. By registering in advance you guarantee to enter all Rounds, this step will give comfort to your sponsors as a serious and professional approach to the EDC and your potential within it. The entry fee for each event remains unchanged from 2006/2007 and you will be able to purchase your space within the Championship via the EDC website shop using a credit card or you can still pay by cheque etc, all details are available shortly in the shop. Once you have paid, we will confirm your space immediately via email. Payment for Round 6 at Poznan ( Poland ) is not due until after Round 5 when the Top 16 Championship standing drivers will be able to pay and enter the event. Poland event details The finals in Poznan Circuit are very special to all, its our first event outside of the UK in terms of a competition but also for most of the EDC drivers too. The circuit is fantastic and will be a stunning end to 2008's Championship. The top 16 Championship point standing drivers after Round 5 at Silverstone will be announced as the drivers which have entry into the finals at Poznan. Each of those drivers will receive financial backing courtesy of EDC and Castrol EDGE in travel expenses to get to and from the circuit in Poland ( the amount of support will be advised to all 26 confirmed drivers that enter the Championship ). Any driver that is outside of the top 16 after Round 5 CAN STILL COMPETE in Poznan however there is no financial backing to transport you and your car there, you have the option to enter should you wish to travel to the venue as with any other EDC event. The revisions and slight changes to this years structure is in the firm interest of the Championship and the drivers. We continue to pave the way in the professioanl presentation of drivers and drifting which not only benefits EDC and the drivers within it but also for other drifting organisations who now find it easier to organise events or gain support as a result of our professional approach in the industry as a whole. Whilst we are a completely separate organisation to BDC, we continue to work with them and thier ambitions to ensure we have a solid structure of real events for everyone that has an interest to progress in Drifting as a competition and as a professionally recognised sport. Our Championship is not for everyone and has never been, it is the highest level of competition within Europe as a result of our organisation, the circuits we use, the doors we continue to open in both the aftermarket and racing industry and the fantastic drivers who compete at our events and amaze those that watch. There are no politics, we welcome everyone who supports the Championship and the ambition we have to put Drifting on the map in Europe as something which is to be admired and this is reflected in our strategy. Any eligible driver who wishes to discuss these details, please contact Maz, Glen or Andy as usual. Cheers Andy, Glen & the JapaneseUsedCars.com EDC operational team. *Note: EDC 2007 point scoring drivers were: Brett Castle Mark Luney Mark Johnston Ben Broke Smith Maciej Polody Tony Green James Grimsey Phil Morrison Chris Parry Tim Marshall Mark Buckle Niall Gunn Jonny Power Peter Barber Ian Harrison Alan McCord Paul Smith Declan Hicks Dean Kearney Mark Coyne James Hudson Daniel Eyles Ralph Crampton Steve Evans Steve Carter Keiran Cameron |
