Which looks less fun for drifty goodness as the part of the track the EDC used stays the same.

Although when I saw Phil coming trough Corum on the first practice run on the Sunday I said "Holy Fuck!". I kept saying it all through practice.

Maybe we need to move the spectators rather than the track. If they were all further up and watching closer to Corum, they would certainly get the sense of speed a lot more.

I tried to watch from the outside of Corum, but the spectator access was fenced up.

This is the layout I have driven at Snetterton. We started the run-up back from the bridge, drifted the Esses and then extended out through Bombhole and Coram, finishing on the downhill.

Unfortunately I spectated on that day and it wasn't a particularly good section to watch.

You have read me wrong, im not calling you a newb you fool! I mean newbies on driftworks and newbies watching drifting!

I think its much easier to see it as people "being negative" because to accept that a venue "doesnt work" for the spectator when our friends are out there busting thier balls, seems a bit shitty. Even more so, when you know how much effort goes into organising the events!

I agree, spectators need to be closer to the action. Unfortunatley, this just doesnt happen at the majority of the larger uk venues because of the huge run offs we have over here.

Its what made group b so cool/popular, spectators being a foot away from a 600bhp monster going flat out whilst airbourne and shooting flames.

As a spectator sport, drifting needs to put people right on the action, its that type of personal experience that gives the people the thrill that will make them come back for more.

this is all in my opinion though... but i think time has proved me right.

For what it's worth I'm with Mitto. I hate to bring up BDC on an EDC thread but hey, that's what I drive in so that's where I get my experiences from; From a drivers point of view Lydden Hill is probably the most exciting one we drive on but doesn't necessarily get the most punters in because the balls out downhill entry is about 200yds from the popular viewing spots - Norfolk Arena however always gets big crowds because you can practically see the whites of the drivers eyes as they tackle every corner on this comparatively basic track.

Competitive drifting is a package - Sight, sound, smell & participation. If you give the crowd all these then they will lap it up and come back for more with extra mates

Duh i know that blud i was referring to mr haich head who has been here since 05 so aint really a newb ?

However in the eyes on Team NS i will always be a newb

Personally I think the best way to get people into drifting is to take them out for a passenger ride in a pukka drift car with a crazy driver

Quite a few people on here have decide to take the plunge and build a drift car due as a result

This is what i'm concentrating on instead of rehashing the same olde bollocks on t'interweb

Oh erm, my bad! haha. You are right though, getting people out in the cars really does get them into it. but also, quite a few people have said to me that just the look of a drift car is what got them into it. Not the shitters, the cool JDM looking stuff. I have heard that so many times about my S14.5 when it was grey, was very flattering, but also, says a lot about what the "consumer" wants!

Yup, ugly cars and shitters do drifting no favours.

That's why I think the Drift Taxi's are such a great idea, see the cars on circuit and get a taste of it for yourself, credit to everyone involved in that Lex....I understand you were flat out all day...

I think people have to remember that the crowds pulled into Modified Live shows are far in excess of any drift only events, hopefully it will enthuse people to go and watch a local event.
Sure, the spectators could have been better advised at Snetterton, but it was EDC's first time there, as it was at Oulton and I know that the layout there will be rejigged. You really don't know until a competition has been held how well it will work.
Next year we've got Cadwell for the first time....another new circuit to work out, and a new group of punters to come and watch the show.

Hmmm - not sure its that clear cut, at least not from a spectators point of view.

Norfolk gets a good draw as it already has a good following from the other motorsport events they have there, the facilities (bar FTW), the lights, the PA system etc.
The fact you can see all of the action is an added bonus, but the track doesnt make me start jumping with excitement as its not high speed by any means.
As others have said, the chicane at Snett kinda takes the edge off it a bit - its not the best place to spectate either. I wonder if it would it work in reverse though??

My favourite venue in the UK is Silverstone, but using the old layout coming up from Bridge - excellent view of two cars at 80+, pouring out smoke with their wing mirrors touching, and then not too much slowing down for Luffield 1, then back on the gas for Luffield 2. Its good for Time Attack viewing as well.

Wembley was very good if a tiny bit tight/slow, Lydden is good but as soon as the cars are past you you cant see them any more from smokes, and Llandow is nice, but a bit boring after the first corner sometimes. I quite liked the BDC Donington layout this year, but again in an ideal world it could have been faster.

Just my thoughts, but any track thats relatively narrow but high speed without 1st gear chicanes or similar is always going to be a good one to watch, and will hopefully draw in the punters from that

HUH RAH.....finally, a drift event at Cadwell....i've been on and on and on about this to people for some time!

Plus living more or less nextdoor, im excited......Cadwell has the makings of a brilliant event, especially if you are doing the whole modified live thing there, its a great drivers and spectators circuit.

I'm interested on which section you are going to use......Gooseneck flat out downhill and into Mansfiled?
Or utlise The Mountain somehow......only applicable for cars with hooooge torque

For me, the best events i have attended in this order are....

1st: JDM Allstars at Wembley.
2nd: EDC / D1 at SIlverstone.

The wembley event is how i personally think pro drifting should be......fast and technical arena's where you can see more or less everything, and close up for the spectators.

Shame Rockingham cant be used again.....it would be awesome to have our own Irwindale style event!

I dont drift at all...i've had a play like most on here, but i dont have the time or money to "get into it", i do love watching dirfting though!
