Ya sure?, he was blowing HUGE amounts of smoke, both blue and white smoke.... not to mention lots of rattly noises.. Most of us were thinking it was toast, he never went out the rest of the day.

Like I said, I spoke to him last night and he said it was something to do with an oil leak. I didn't catch most of it. The diff was grinding a little so the diff oil was changed last night but that was unrelated. The head is being taken off after Japfest anyway.

No pics of Mart's xr4i ripping it up? Just a dead tyre which I assume to be his judging by the gangster camber.

MazdaChris I'm pretty sure you don't need a turdo to do pod lol, just keep practicing and you'll get it

Maybe it's just the layout of the kidney track. I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses, because I know full well that I suck. That's why I'm there; to learn and to improve.

But you have no real runup to the corners in the kidney, and it's a case of the car not being able to hold the drift all the way round because I need to shift gears as I'm going round. That's kind of ok, and I feel like I was doing alright like that.

Next time I'm going to throw it at the big track and just kick it hard into the corners and hope I don't end up on my roof or in a field somewhere. With a bit of speed I should be ok. The kidney is just at that inbetween sort of speed where it's a bit too fast to spin the wheels under power, but not fast enough to have any meaningful momentum.

Like you say, I'll keep practicing. One day I'll need more power though. One day.

Edited to add - Dead tyre is mine. The one with 'AGO' on the side, anyway.

You were doing good Chris, to be honest, i suck loads more at the kidney track than at the big track, i think some of it is you think your going to hit the fence if you go out too far (well you did ) but ya know what i mean, and yes the middle bit is quite small, i was struggling to get on boost there.

Cheers. I was enjoying it. It's just that point coming round the main corner, having to let it straighten up for a second while I shift into second, then kick it sideways again. It was trying to shift while still going sideways that threw me off, so a lesson well learned there

Though I found that if I had a bit of speed I could throw it out fairly wide and then just dab the brake to get it to turn in after the long corner. Using the footbrake to tighten your angle is definitely a technique I like, and feels a little less savage than yanking the handbrake.

You should be able to grab 2nd while keeping it sideways. You just need to be smooth when you engage drive again

It won't get around the slower part in second, the revs are too low. I need to keep the revs up past 5500rpm to keep anything going really, otherwise it just bogs down.

oh thats weird! clutch kick harder? maybe try keeping it at half revs whilst changing to 2nd, not too nice for the car but i've heard it works?

That is odd, mx5's are a small nimble car. You should flick through the tight parts well.
I'll jump in with you next time for a nosey if you like

Maybe a little more tyre pressure will work. I was running 40psi at the rear, I guess I could stretch that to 50.

I'll try a few things out, see how it goes.

Chris - stick it to 50psi (I always run mine at 50psi now, as do lots of people and comment on how much better it is), and then give it a go. I can guarantee that that car will go round the whole kidney in 2nd. Even if you don't have enough to make the main corner, you'll make the others. With a smidgen more clutchkicking!
