I was trying higher shutter speeds today, the layout of Watergrasshill doesnt allow much panning and found the autofocus to be a bit inconsistent. I tried to capture what James said at the very start of this thread of a frontal shot with the dirver on the lock, have a few like this ..

that worked well, judging by the still visable movement in the tyre tread looks like you got a nice balence between movement and freezing, what was that? about 1/250ish

paddy what 300mm lens you using the 75-300 or a fixed 300 and is she a canon lens as canon AF is usually amazing ? i was shooting on a sigma fixed 300 F4 lens on sunday and got the likes of this but the AF was a bit slow on it sadly and quality isn't as great as a canon 300 F4 - this picture is 800 shuter speed

and then i moved to a new angle at kirkistown that i've never shot from and but the shutter down to 125 and got some good reults i thought

on that note.. jessops quoted £168.99 for canon ef 75-300mm f4/5.6 usm mk3... anyone know if this is a reasonable price? or of anywhere that does it cheaper (apart from ebay)??

asking because i need to get a bigger lens before next year...

from reports and reviews i have read on this lens it isn't too hot when it comes to quick AF or sharpness and a friend has one and regrets buying it. i have a 55-200 mk2 usm and she is amazing so with a 1.5x converter it might be a wiser choice ?

Thats the lens I have, It's fine up as far as 200mm but when you push further it gets ropey and requires way higher shutter speeds. Plus, I got it for €100 in new condition, Cheers Robbie

Have a sigma 170-500mm aswell ...
