Paddy buys a Nikon

Sure I cant talk,I bought a Canon

My other new toy is a Nikon D300 with grip, saved a 'few' quid getting it in Japan. Hopefully us more seasoned photographers can help push the mainstream media into accepting drifting as a true motorsport

Nikon flash isn't allowed near the camera ! Its for off camera use only. I wouldnt even leave the box for it with the rest of the Canon boxes. Going to use the manual as bog roll

@DriftReport.NL

The 25-105 hasn't been despatched yet, should have it in about 10 days on account of the Chinese New Year.

Angry equipment rental

a word of warning to anybody who wants/needs to rent any equipment, do not go near these cowboys!!! CAMERENT.CO.UK.

due to water ingress into my 70-200 i needed to rent another for EDC round 1 tomorrow,

Wednesday morning:

I google "lens rental" after finding my 70-200 wont play ball, camerent pop up first in the list i call them to explain my problem and discuss my requirements, the guy on the other end of the phone couldn't be more helpful and i book out a nikor 70-200vr and a nice new D3 body to be delivered to they're milton keynes "pick up depot"........i sit back all chuffed that ive got some top class kit to use on saturday and wait for conformation email.................it doesn't arrive!! after a few more phone calls it still does not arrive.

Thursday morning:

still no email, i call again and get told of server problems hence no email i am then told that the camera and lens can be delivered to my house on friday afternoon........great i think so i pay for the hire of the equipment on my card and give a credit card as a deposit (yes i know im a cock!!) i am then promised a invoice and contract by email..........it never arrives...........after countless phone calls chasing up the email it still does not arrive and all the promises of "i'll call you back" turn out to be bollocks!! i continue to ring until 7pm when they switched of the phones......even the 24 hour support line ...........alarm bells are now ringing loud and clear!! i call my card providers to make sure no money has left my accounts......to my surprise nothing has been charged to my accounts thank frick! so i ask them to ring me if anybody trys to charge my account.

This morning:

i wake up to a email saying very sorry but the equipment i have ordered is not available for friday but it will be delivered 9am saturday.........absolutely no fricking good what so ever to me!!!!! i call up to see WTF has happened and i am told that i can get a sigma 70-200 with the d3 body today! fantastic i think, i then explain that im not happy with the service and there is no way im paying for anything until i have it in my hand...."no problems" the guy says and gives me the address of the Milton keynes depot, still very suspicious about the whole thing i go check out the address i have been given.......after driving up and down the road for 20 minutes i cant find the depot.......i ask a number of people where the depot is and nobody has heard of it!.........by now im fricking screwing and ring up again to find out WTF is going on to be told the guy i was dealing with has locked himself in his office and can not be contacted.............i then loose my rag and go fricking apeshit! cancel the order and make all sorts of threats, i get home check nothing has been taken from my accounts and cancel my cards.

i am sooooooo fricking angry about the whole thing, im not saying these guys are crooks but it has opened my eyes to a whole new level of shit customer service! got to admit ive been a bit daft as well, i should have told them to frick off at the first "problem" and gone to another rental agency but hey live and learn.

beware people, there is some shonkey sons of bitches out there!!

off topic... but thoughts on one of these as a beginner cam for the missus.

I mean 350D in the uk but imported ones are the rebel XT? so

1) good cam and lense?
2) would you get an import?

Or any other suggestions really thanks

Oli great for a beginner. Might be worth checking out the phototog forums for 2nd user cameras. Some pro's often have a spare camera as a backup and you can pick up a bargain that's not been hammered.
Thats how i got mine.

Have shot four rounds with my new 300mm F4 L IS prime and have to say, I'm not regretting the purchase for a moment ! Was worried that 300mm would be wahey too strong but as it turns out, it's just right for over here and was perfect at Teeside aswell. Think I'm going to trade in the Sigma 70-200 for the Canon L IS equivalent and I'm still undecided on a 50 f1.4 or 85 f1.8 - Just need the money first

Spent a few quid during the week, picked up two 4GB Extreme III's, AA battery holders, eye piece extenders for both cameras, two ND8 filters and a 100m wifi remote, should come in handy when the rig arrives ...

First port of call will be to probably dump the telescopic pole for single pieces that can be joined together, think I may need a 'magic arm' aswell but we'll wait and see

Paddy, where did you buy that rig, and how much? Been looking for one of those for bloody ages, but the only one I could find was the one from automotiverigs which apparently breaks by just looking at it!

There won't be much of that one left once it arrives. It currently spans 188cm, but I'm aiming for more like 15-20 feet range. I'm just worried about pulling panels off cars at that length as a camera weighing 2kg's at the car, doubles in effective weight for every foot it comes away from the car I think ? So at 20 feet it would be the equivalent of 40kgs ???

Please feel free to correct me, I'm shit at physics and maths
