Welcome ted
Welcome
yeah 36s good starting point esp if your working on them
otherwise old e30
340/360 volvo
of course depends on age
I did have a look at the volvos but im a bmw mechanic so an old e36 would be nice and easy to repair if i bust it.plus seems e36 are easier to find and source parts for too.which engines would you guys recommend?a lot of people have said steer clear of below 323 s?
318is is good with manfoot
323 is as good as a 325 with an M50(325) inlet manifold fitted
325 are straight out the box good
328i are brilliant cus same power as a 325 but you can tune them for more power (upwards of 230hp) for not a lot of money
enjoy!
323 is as good as a 325 with an M50(325) inlet manifold fitted = not strictly true they are an ally engine as a bmw mechanic i assume you know this tec they usually are down on power cause of the restrictive inlet manifold also earlier engines suffer from nikasil issues (lining of the cylinder bores) newer ones e.g after 97 models were replaced with alusil so there safer but still down on power the 325 non vanos is the best bet for engine choice without tuning as it has less mechanicals = vanos solenoid to go wrong my advice would be to get a 4 cylinder model to learn in cause then you learn to drift and car control and more range of techniques than just jumping into a circa 200bhp car which should skid really well as standard with lowering and welding the diff 316 = wanker than wank 318 8v = not to bad put take effort but do skid never the less 318is 16v m42 engine pre 95 = best 4 cylinder model available and great for skidding 318is 16 m44 engine post 95= shit and under powered welcome to driftworks by the way Turbo Ted hope to see you attending a skidrisk practice day soon
wow that post looks really shit now i had it laid out really nice at first lol
you need sleep my dear friend :P the return key is under backstroke(this coming from the half blind man xD)
Thanks for the advise folks, more than aware of the aliusil issues, although before my time at bmw.i know that there was a big recall on them to replace the block and pistons so a 323 might not be too bad, altho i think a 318is might be a sensible option because i dont want to just plant my right foot to skid.lol.jus got to do some scrimping and saving now and hopefully find one.

they aint too much money, if you look you can find one for as little as £300 with a bit of t&t, or for a minty mint one id say upwards of a grand, but if its gonna be drifted you might aswell chuck it together and try spend as little as you can, function over form and all that lol
