don't get me wrong I love the Old Skool Escorts, I have 4 of them, and I build them for a living, but unless you have your heart set on one they are not a wise choice of fun car. To give some idea of prices I turned down £10k for the one in my sig pic just before Xmas All IMHO of course ![]()

| Having just done my first drift day in my Datsun, I would highly recommend buying a car that is well know to be good for drifting. An S13 is the ideal choice. I know I could learn in my Datsun but it's going to be much harder and probably take much longer so I'm out to buy an S13 and prep it before my next event. You might as well make things easier for yourself by learning in a car known to drift well then progress into cars that are more difficult later I think. |

I was well tempted but I use the Escort for trackdays and stuff too, and with 330bhp and about 900KG's it's just too good an all rounder plus it's good for business, as I build and mod them for other people it's a good idea to show them what can be done.Toying with the idea of playing round with my S14 though and set it up a bit better for drifting, as it's definitely an easy car to use, plus it's always good to get to know what tricks work well on different cars.

| Hi guys and gals I've been viewing the site for a number of weeks now but have only just decided to register. So I thought I'd just say 'Hi' to you all. Hopefully I'll be attending a few rounds this year and, if I can persuade the girlfriend, will be looking for a cheap drift machine for myself later on. I have absolutely no experience other than a bit of accidental oversteer so I am a complete newbie when it comes to actually drifting. I do tend to scour the forums first but please be gentle with me if I start asking noob like questions, and there will be some questions asked! In the meantime, happy sideways fun and I'll catch ya on here soon. EDIT: Just found this thread after posting the above in the 'Other Chat' section. Mods feel free to delete one of them! |

| My name is Anil Gill, from Bedford, UK. I always wanted to get into rallying properly, but then decided against it due to costs involved etc. After seeing a few option drift D1 events on DVD and then seeing articles for the sport taking off in the UK, I thought it would be great to have a go. But at this point I was still wondering which car to go for after selling my beloved Evo 6. After reading up on drift stuff on the net etc I thought the AE86 would be a nice car to start off with (popular on the Rallying scene), apparently cheap to buy and run… Yeah right! Favourite with many drivers before Initial D became mainstream, and then ever increasing popularity since In-D and now the demand and monies involved for a decent AE86 are unreal for a 20 yr old Toyota). I bought my AE86 from Chris Parry aka Paz (recent Banzai article). I originally had a Lancer Evo 6 and before that an Evo 3. So it was quite different to what I was used to, but I have had the privilege of driving a couple of Grp 4 MK2 rally escorts in the past, they were a hoot. I entered a few rounds of UK D1 (Rnd 3 & 4) and also 1 Cone dodgers practice session in Andover in 2004. But things weren’t so rosy for my 86 and me. I blew my engine after Rnd 4 (up the slip road, junc 14 into MK) Expense I have had so far ;- 1. A custom built aluminium fuel cell replaced the original fuel tank which had rusted away LOL!). 2. New Phase 2 4AGE Engine (low mileage, apparently). 3. New Radiator. 4. New Oil Cooler. 5. New rear shocks. 6. New Lateral Panhard rod. 7. New Magnecor HT leads. There are some other bits, Inc refurbing the rusty bits of the shell Inc rear arches. So in the present My 86 is almost ready (it's been ages in my mates workshop, waiting for some parts, took longer than expected to obtain), apparently I should be able to pick it up this coming Friday (waiting to get an MOT). I will post some pics when I get the Hachi back and hopefully be able to attend the practice session @Silverstone in March. Personally I can’t see myself getting a clubman’s license..Why…cus I’m crap :dermal: Maybe if I have the car working long enough to get familiar with it, I may be able to, but hey fingers crossed for 2005 |

On here looking for AE86 parts to build into my 1974 TA22 Celica (engine cross-member / steering rack / engine / box / brake calipers) Will come and spectate at events in the mean time. Rob ![]() |

| tail slider | I'm not sure how to write this, but here goes.. Hi, my name is Mikael and I'm from Sweden (dosn't that say it all), so expect the worst when it comes to my English. ![]() I have been interested in drifting for a while now (1-2 years) but never had the chance to give it a go. The main reason for this is that I'm a student (and a very poor one, still live at home with my parents ). Don't get me wrong, i love my parents and like living with them but...I do have car, a Volvo Amazon -66, but it's not very sutible for drifting (the slowest steering this side of WW2). My future when it comes to drifting is (sad to say) not very bright. I won't, as long as I'm in school, be able to afford anything that even comes close to looking like a proper drift car. But I have spoken to KristianAE86 a few times and have come to the conclution that I will try voluntar (spelling?) as a functionary at as many drift events as possible as a compensation for not beeing able to drift my self. It's about time I stopped to bore you guys (and girls) to death with the story of my life... ![]() Hope to have the pleasure of meeting some of you IRL sometime.. ![]() Last edited by PDE : 01-02-2005 at 11:58. |
