Collecting my car from the docks.. need some advice.

    Afternoon all,

Im due to collect my car this week from Newcastle docks, I have the paperwork from Andy & Ems, I also got the paperwork from NSA (Newcastle docks) which includes the C 384.

The NSA form says I have to pay £125 + Customs/Duty VAT. However I dont have anything in paper showing how much it cost me so how will customs know how much to charge me?

Iam assuming I can just go down there, with this paperwork and take my car out, I did it with a friend many years ago but he sorted out all the paperwork..

I emailed the docks but got no reply.

Well i dont know if its any different over here, but in germany they want u to bring some kind of invoice at least which states how much u paid for it! So that they can charge u with the Customs / Duty VAT! ... I tend to order alot from japan and usa and i allways use a copy of the paypal "payment cleared" page... and print it... thats enough for thm! And i think the seller of the car has to fill in a form where he has to state how much u payd for the car ... 1. for duty and customs and 2. just in case it gets lost its insured and he gets the money back!

are you using a customs clearance agent ? I should be picking up my car from southampton docks on friday, I received the shipping invoice on friday and I've paid that (and an £85 unload my car off the boat fee ), my agent should be calling me tomorrow with a bill for the taxes which i'll pay the following day, then as far as Im aware im free to go down the docks and collect it on friday when its ready.

Ah rite, well i paid the shipping before it shipped in japan so it shud just be the £85 to wallenius wilhelmson, and the taxes and agent fee.

Well I got a letter saying my shipping was paid already (Before it left Japan) iv got £125 to pay to get the car off the boat then CC on top. Do you need to use an Agent? I have the paperwork so cant I just do that? :S

How are you guys taking your cars home? Trade plates? Insured off the vin or just transporter?

I rang them to pay and they said they cant take payment over the phone and that there was details to bank transfer the money on the shipping invoice paperwork, so thats what I did, I'd ring them if I were you to make sure you can pay it when you get there.

Mint, no you dont have to use an agent but I just think its easier as they deal with it all for you, you pay them then just go pick the car up, I dont know how complicated it is if you dont use an agent though, I dont have any of the forms you've mentioned, well actually I dont have any paperwork (aside from shipping invoice) as it was all sent to my agent.

Ah rite, ive just got a letter saying the ETA so i'll probs just pay downthere.

Its ridiculously complicated without an agent, i rang up HMRC to see about doing it myself but its so much easier and faster to use an agent

yeah Im waiting to find out my exact bill before I decide on whether to insure it and drive it back or hire a trailer and tow it back, cos if I insure it im then pressed to register it and fit an alarm all within 2 weeks which is another £500, bloody costs keep mounting

I think its only within 2 weeks if the car is new, i think used cars of the age of ours are alright, thats how i interpreted it anyway but try ringing up DVLA and the chimp on the other end was useless lol

I just read on the ETA that you can pay cash or bank transfer so yeah should be fine to pay it there.
