    Car alarm suggestions.

Basically I have to fit an alarm/immobiliser to the R32 for the insurance company to cover me. I suppose it would also be a good idea as the car is now worth a bit.

Now I have zero knowledge on any of this stuff so wondering if you guys can suggest a decent alarm system?

I suppose I may aswell get a CAT 1 alarm (that is the best kind right?) and would like remote locking. Don't really need any fancy stuff like remote start or any of that rubbish.

So yeah any brands I should be looking for in particular? If possible I would like to fit it myself so if anyone has done that previous experience advice would be welcome!

I assume your getting it fitted and not fitting it yourself?

The Toad AI606 is a not bad basic reliable unit. They come in around £250 fitted I think.

Have a look at the viper 480xv I think it is, I had one on my s13. The pager comes in bloody handy if you're not in sight of the car but local enough to pick up the signal

If you want cat 1, you can't fit it yourself, you need a certificate for insurance purposes.

Insurance company told me themselves that I would just need to get a headed letter from a garage saying that the alarm is fitted and working.

I am thinking about ordering this

How do you confirm with them if you buy a car with an alarm already installed?

AFAIK in order to be Cat 1, the alarm must have all black wires unlabled. Fuck wiring that up

Previous owner should have the cert.

There is more to a cat1 alarm that it simply working. As above re wires etc

Im just recomending u get that in writing as i doubt an insurance company will accept a diy install of a cat1alarm. Otherwise whats the point in having certified or registered installers.

Next you will be able to do mots at home and getting a garage to quickly check it.

Isin't that exactly what a MOT is if you work on the car at home yourself?

TBH I thought the same thing about having to get someone to install it but I am only repeating what I was told by the insurance company.

Plus what I have seen of alot of companies that fit alarm systems I would be better off doing it myself!

as others suggested, the clifford concept is a good alarm. mate of mine had it supplied and fitted for £350 and comes with pretty much everything you need regards to prox. sensors etc

I have been offered a Autowatch Cat 1 alarm for £250 fitted. Any experience of them?

just dont get it fitted be "secure a car" or Secure@car" as they messed me about loads.

I had a viper 500 thing, Remote pager etc. dont think it was to expensive - Recommend gettting a pager - its so handy.
