    Hi

Can anybody give me some advice on installing a new motor onto my compressor?

Basically I've bought an huge old belt driven compressor, the only thing missing was the motor. So Ive bought a new 240v(single phase) 3hp clarke induction motor.

I've wired new cables into the pressure switch and then back out to the motor...this is where I'm stuck . Here's the board on top of the motor...

The six wired brass bolts were pre wired that way from the shop and so all are correct and present, the only wires that need connecting are the three in the top corner from the pressure switch, blue, brown, copper.

To add to the confusion there is a reset switch on the bottom of the casing which is connected on only one terminal, so I'm guessing something needs to be wired to that aswell.

There are no instructions with the motor, only this diagram on the casing

I'm stumped :screwy: There's a lot of clever people on here so can anyone help? :D

Which way does the motor need to spin , clockwise or anticlockwise?

I'm 99% sure it's supposed to be going clockwise(if looking at it pulley side). I'm nowhere near it to check for certain unfortunately.

Also , i'm guessing the LINE black wire of the reset switch is going to a pin on the 6 pin array?

also are you protected by an circuit breaker , just to be safe

Yeah I think your right re the black wire from the switch. It does go to u2 iirc.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm very not electronically gifted :D It's on a domestic three pin plug at the moment,All of the sockets in our unit are wired to a trip switch on the fuse board if thats what you mean?

And the mains plug goes into the pressure switch yes? Which will also allow you to switch on and off the compressor?

Yeah the mains is routed through the pressure switch so will switch on/off at correct pressure etc.

Right well , you might want to wire one in.

the bars need moving from ||: over to =:

then you need to make sure that the other wired pin of that thermal reset does go to U2 , then one wire goes to the thermal load side , and the other goes to U1 , the copper bit , ideally wants to go to chassis ground but avoiding those 6 pins and any other components.

As soon as its plugged in it should start the motor. I'd be tempted to add an switch in the input wires , just for safety and ease of use , they are about £12 online for a basic one. An NVR one would be nice and visible.

, I'll bolt it down first I think as id imagine a motor that size would do a fair bit of damage. :D

    SORTED! :D

Finally managed to get to my unit today to have a go at sorting the motor and it's finally working...after three months of people promising to come and wire it for me.

Cheers for the advice bolf, really appreciate it.

Thread is six years old, that bloke hasn't been on here in 4 years so is unlikely to come back and answer your question.
