hey guys i'm having problems with my daily car, firstly i need a steering rack thats the easy thing, next i'm having problems with the immobiliser! it's a rather irritating problem, some days it's fine and starts, others it won't start. To get it to start i either have to take the battery terminal off for a few seconds (doesn't always work) or i have to lock the car then unlock and leave the key in the ignition turned to 'on' for it to start, then it will be fine for a few days.

The other problem is it seems to be a bit gutless at the moment, i cant really hear the turbo spool either, do any of you know the correct boost pressure for a standard A3 1.8T so that i can get a boost gauge on and see if the turbo is at least making the correct pressure. the car doesn't smoke blue white or black at all the engine has recently been serviced.

the car is the '99 version, any help will be great thank you.

Best thing you can ever do with any modern VAG engine, especially the 1.8T, is get a code reader, diagnostic thingy.

Things like the N75 valve etc etc playing up can leave you with gay super low boost etc, and if you can instantly read the codes you can easily solve the problem with no effort and guessing.

Had one in our old TT, plugged in to the OBD port and was permanent, in a dash vent, and shown everything, boost, airflow, pressures, temps, etc etc, everything the ECU can see, as well as instantly reading fault codes.

Because of that, you could instantly see what was playing up and fix it easily.

That was was no bother soon as that was fitted. Prior to that it took lots of trips to 'specialists' who spent ages fannying about trying to fix issues I did in 5min after that was in.

i had it plugged in today it came up with no codes, took the missus home earlier and it went great but yesterday it felt very very slow, kind of like i was driving a 1.1 metro.
